It would require the cell providers keep all the older 3G gear around, which doesn’t make business sense. By the end of 2022 there will be no 3G capabilities available in the US unless something changes in the current plans. The performance improvements in spectral efficiency from 3G to 4G and 4G to 5G are quite significant and a much better use of the spectrum for consumers and providers even though it means some equipment will no longer work.

No. 3G will not work on 4G lines. If your phone is 3G that won't work either.

Cell tech changes often enough to force phone "upgrades"
far more often than the expected lifespan of cpap machines.
Could the manufacturers be relying on cell towers
because they want to force us to buy a new machine more often?
Or could the cpap have a receiver that is compatible with future systems?
If so, I want to pop one into my phone to make it usable longer.
By the time I've learned how to use my phone, I have to start all over again.

My ResMedAirSense 10 says it uses CDMA cell technology. To the best of my (layman's) understanding, this means that the signal can only be passed by cell providers who use CDMA technology. AFAIK, Verizon and T-Mobile use CDMA but AT&T does not. Hopefully someone that knows more about cell technology will come along and confirm or debunk my info.
Both AT&T and T-Mobile are GSM, not CDMA

Verizon is CDMA

make sure on the “My Options”->”About” screen the cellular network type is 4G.

I did that today for my 3 month old ResMed AirSense 10 and the used low-hour backup AirSense 10 I just bought and they both said:

T-Mobile
4G

So I guess I’m set for a while and no need to worry about 3G being phased out?

Of course the dream would be 5G with wi-fi capability, but that is probably a light-year away -- by which time 5G will be old technology. :?
There is such a thing as a wifi sd card...I have one and download my data to my pc and look at it with OSCAR every day.

The experts have repeatedly said in this thread that better info can be obtained via OSCAR and via the LCD screen on the CPAP.

Yet there is still so much insistance in uploading info up to MyAir.

I am genuinely interested as to why?

For some of us it’s compliance checking by insurance companies. Whether they do or not is questionable, but mine insists on it for 3 months before they reimburse me for my out-of-pocket expenses. Not debating that OSCAR is much better data, but I know the sleep center I used sends the data to the ENT as well since he reviewed my results with me at my follow-up visit.

Usually the insistence is DME or doctors doing it. They can quickly and easily access the data on the website and verify usage and results or whatever and that's all they care about. Takes maybe a couple of minutes to get whatever they want.
Otherwise they have to get physical possession of the SD card and run it through ResScan (which is a PITA to use) and it might take 30 minutes...once they get the SD card in their hot little hands.
So the reason DMEs and doctors want people to use MyAir and the cellular transmission thing....saves them time, money and all that happy horse crap stuff. Might even eliminate the job of the person who used to handle doing on the ResScan stuff for compliance documentation...save more money.
