Re: To CPAP or not to CPAP? That is the Question...

I will start with comments in Q and A form: Q: Is the doctor blowing smoke up your ass? A: Probably not, but "to err is human" so you have to judge this for yourself. Q: Can you get used to the machine? A: Probably. When I first started, it seemed like the machine and I had competing ideas. It would...

Re: Newbie would like to hear success stories, please.

I got a birthday greeting (thanks) from the CPAP team, and I realized it had been quite a while since I was on. Yes, I regard my therapy as a success story. I'll give some details, if they are of any use I am pleased. I am now 75. Over most of these 75 years I have had good health. But we all age. A...

Re: ASV,Sleepyhead, Slowly learning

I just saw the doc and we talked about all of the leakage. Some other nights were worse than the one I posted, and so he prescribed a replacement mask (the soft part that contacts the face). I plan to scrub, or at least wash, my face before going to bed to get the oils off. Actually I have been doin...

Re: CPAP, BPAP, ASV,Sleepyhead, Slowly learning

Definitely I am feeling better. No comparison really.
I will try to organize this better so that it's easier to see what's what. The data bounces around some so it takes more than a single snapshot to make much of it.

Re: CPAP, BPAP, Sleepyhead, Slowly learning

This is an experiment to see if I am posting a workable link. I have now downloaded the EncoreBasic and read the Smartcard. EncoreBasic allows me to save the results as .pdf, and I used Adobe's "Take a snapshot" and uploaded the results to Google docs. If all has gone well, one page from the EncoreB...

Re: CPAP, BPAP, Sleepyhead, Slowly learning

Pugsy, Thank you very much. I downloaded it and it works. I need to explore it a bit before I can ask an intelligent question, but for starters I am able to see that indeed the card has the information on it from the nights that sleepyhead could not find it. One thing I want to get at: When I had my...

ASV, EncoreBasic, Slowly learning

Hi all, Edit: Following Pugsly's suggestion, I have put ASV in the title. Also, although I was using sleepyhead when I wrote this, thanks to Pugsly I am now making good use of EncoreBasic. So I changed the title to reflect that. Back in November I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and knew nothing, Now...

Re: Clearway-Central - what is the threshold to move to ASV?

This is very helpful. I have the results from the sleep study, I believe they are the full version, it is something that I can ask. Since I posted, my wife Becky tracked down some material related to this. It is for a contractor, but it directly addresses Medicare regs. It requires some care in read...

Re: Clearway-Central - what is the threshold to move to ASV?

I think this thread applies to me. If so, I am in debt to Chuck and to grandPAP for their comments. Some of what I will say is from a less detailed thread i started when I knew less. Here is the info from above: As indicated above, my DME totally misinformed me regarding the Medicare requirement. In...

Re: Newbie/ST/autoSV

Edit: The post immediately above this appeared while I was writing this one. In particular, yes, I will push for the ASV or at least for a clear explanation about why I cannot or should not. An update: Review: After 30 days of CPAP I still had aneas, mostly central. I was sent to the sleep lab expec...

Re: Newbie/ST/autoSV

Thanks again for the thoughts. I have now heard from them and they say the S/T went well. They are sending me the report, they are sending off a prescription to the DME (of that's the right name) for an S/T. I hope it works as well as they describe. From reading the replies here and on other threads...

Re: Newbie/ST/autoSV

I'm sorry to hear that the ASV may be more difficult to adapt to than the S/T, but I was thinking that might be the case. Which seems to mean that it would not be practical to assign me to an SV after I spent the sleep study night attached to an S/T. I guess my plan is to give the doc's office a cal...

Re: Newbie/ST/autoSV

Thanks Xney. I was thinking it was like this, but you confirm it and with more details. I appreciate it. Since I have to deal with this problem I want to deal with it as effectively as possible. It seems to me that the asv is the way to go if indeed it can be written up that way. The simple solution...

Re: Newbie/ST/autoSV

At http://bipap.respironics.com/ I found the following. Actually, it sounds like a good gadget. But still, the doc said autoSV. BiPAP® S/T System with Encore® Pro Smart Card® Is the newest addition to Respironics home noninvasive ventilator fleet. The compact and lightweight unit is simple to operat...
