For what it's worth, last night by request, I posted a follow up to the sleep study essay.

I don't think I'll make it a regular practice to announce when there are new things on there, but in case anyone is curious...

By the way, I've had several people ask whether it's OK to forward the URL on to other people. Absolutely. If you like my writing well enough to want to share it with someone, by all means, do so. It warms my heart.

Liam, who just realized, that's not heartburn he's feeling, he just let them warm his heart a little too much.

He's back?

Post by LDuyer » Sun Feb 20, 2005 2:02 pm

I may have spoken prematurely.

Seems Liam's sort of back, kind of lurking, and popping in tentatively, wondering if the sandbox is safe to enter.

WHO wants to be first to entice Liam back???

What can you do to lure him back? Make a joke? Tell a limerick? Sing a song? Write a poem? Post a cartoon? Ask him to squawk like a chicken? Send dirty jokes to his blog? Pretend to be Dave Barry online seeking Liam's wisdom? ........ What can we do? Hmmmm??

Seems from info in another thread that Liam has actually been getting some sleep hear and there. So let's assume he's sleeping and all just be real quiet so we don't disturb him.

Hey, folks.

Yes, it's true, I got about 9 hours of sleep last night, then another 4 this morning.

I'm also at work all weekend (major release weekend), so my access has been limited.

But I find it funny that I've really only been (semi) inactive for a day and a half and already people are saying I've "not been around much lately".

Maybe there's something to my wife's complaints that I'm "always on cpaptalk" these days.

Liam, alive and well and watching Star Wars at work.

I refuse to answer that on the grounds that it may get me SHOT on this board...

I was on the couch without the CPAP, but I've always slept better on the couch, and now that I know that A) I have apnea, and B) it occurs mostly when I'm on my back, I know why...

On the couch, I can't comfortably sleep on my back, so I'm on my side all night long. I suspect that it was good, restful sleep. My wife said that she watched me (while watching TV) for two hours last night, and for the 4 hour "nap" this morning, and she never saw me snore or stop breathing.

Liam, well rested, does it really matter WHY?

Yeah, I wish so as well. SOONER OR LATER I'll get used to sleeping with the thing on.

What do you know about these "AutoPAP" things? Someone was suggesting maybe I should try one.

>DUCK<

Liam, well rested, but no less goofy.

Liam,

What do you think is the deal breaker for you on cpap? What aspect makes it not work for you?

What about an APAP do you think will make cpap tolerable for you?

How you answer these questions will indicate whether or not an APAP may be better for you.

I honestly don't know. I just know that when I'm wearing the mask, I have a deuce of a time falling asleep. I have to be absolutely exhausted before I can (which translates to "awake through 2-3 nights, and then one night of solid sleep"), and I can do better than that WITHOUT the CPAP.

I don't, honestly, think an APAP would work any better, it was a joke because early on in my CPAP trial, you and others were pushing me really hard to try one, so I thought it funny to ask if you'd heard of them.

To be honest, I'm beginning to wonder whether I'm going to be one of those who can never be compliant.

(On another note, I'm on relatively high doses of niacin (inositol hexanicotinate) for cholesterol, and it's making me itch horribly all the time. I suppose if I could get the itching under control, the sleep might be better.)

Liam, ITCHING for a solution, barely SCRATCHING the surface.

crap

Post by LDuyer » Mon Feb 21, 2005 2:54 am

This truly is crap, waking up at 3 or 4 in the morning after only a few short hours of sleep, and feeling crappy-tired.....did I say crappy?

This really is the pits. And anyone else up at this hour must also be feeling yucko....or having a great time partying......in which case I wish I were you.......
