A thought...

Post by Liam1965 » Fri Feb 18, 2005 7:13 am

This is a really dumb thought, but the engineer in me wants to ask...

Is it possible to get a hose splitter?

I really don't feel COMFORTABLE in the full face mask, although sometimes it's necessary, but I think I might feel more comfortable with the Swift under my nose and the Oracle in my mouth, both hooked up, so that either way I chose to breathe, I was getting benefit, but didn't have to deal with the big ugly mask.

Just a thought. (I'm sure there'd be technical hurdles, like the exhaust ports of two different masks together comprising sufficient wasted pressure to show up as a leak, etc.)

Liam, why use one mask when you can use TWO!

Liam,

It's been suggested before and is worthy of investigation. The Inomed Nasalaire II has a split hose. You might be able to use it without the nasal interface to connect to the swift and the oracle. Might be kind of costly to try.

Why use two masks when you can use three!

Wow, you mean I'm NOT insane for suggesting it? (Or at least not alone in my insanity?)

COOL! And I was feeling so alone.

Liam, who's still looking for that rectally mounted mask (see the essay on Sleep Studies on my blog for details).

Liam,
Are you using the oracle mask now? I have thought about trying it but wanted to talk to someone who has it first. It is too expensive to buy and then not use.

Thanks

No, I'm not. But I have considered it on occasion. I can't get a good seal from my Ultra Mirage FF mask (although it is most comfortable), and FORGET about the ComfortGel or whatever Respironics' full face mask is called.

The Nasal masks work well MOST of the time, but not when I get congested, and so I was considering whether the Swift and the Oracle together might accomplish with none of the FF masks I've tried have been able to.

Liam, who has given up MASKING is true feelings.

Whats your pressure at Liam? Over 10, you need to crank the mask down a lot... It doesn't feel super comfortable that way, but it doesn't leak...

Mike,

If Liam puts his mask on so tight that it doesn't leak he can't rip it off and throw it against the wall in the middle of the night.

My pressure is 9, so I guess the answer is "not over 10".

I'm not sure what the problem is. I really am liking the Swift, except for the nights I can't breathe through my nose.

Liam, who broke his little bottle of Love Pressure Number 9.

Good point...

If you yank and pull your head might come off then... Ouch.

I'm waiting for the post from Liam signed:

Liam, who has yanked his head off a few times, but just picks it up and puts it right back on.

Hmmmm. I was trying to think of a post to make, so I could sign it:

Liam, who doesn't tell people when he, er, "yanks his head off".

Well to get back on topic...

A split hose would probably work as long as you weren't using an auto. On an auto I think it would play havoc with the pressure sensing...

Good point, Mikesus, and thanks for getting this thread back on track. I hate it when I post a topic and some miscreant subverts the intent.

Liam, you can't see his halo, but it's there. Really.

Split Hose?

Post by glassgal » Mon Feb 21, 2005 8:47 pm

Hi all,

I am using the PB420e with NasalAire II (split hose). I have been getting some odd (I think) results -- could it be the auto doesn't read right with the NAII??

Do any of the autos work with NAII? That interface works best for me.

Thanks for any responses?

Jane

Most of the autos have a disclaimer about not working with non-standard I.E. nasal mask or full face...
