Advice for Split Night Sleeping at home

Post by Janelle » Wed Feb 16, 2005 2:34 pm

Many of us tend to wake up a few hours into the night and then can't get back to sleep. When I mentioned this to my RT today he suggested, staying up until I couldnt hold my eyes open. This would put me, hopefully, into a deeper sleep that would last longer. He was quite concerned that I was still so sleepy in the afternoons I needed a nap and thought maybe the split sleeping was the reason why. So, I'll try his suggestion tonight (in the midst of a new cold) and see how it works.

Of course that means going to bed with the cows practically after reading Liam until the wee hours. or playing computer solitaire, or reading, or examining my belly button for lint.

Will let you know if it works or not.

Another thing you might try is to make sure that you don't turn on any lights or anything else that can "reset" your internal time clock. I know that when I get up and go to the bathroom, if I put the light on, I will be awake for the next hour, minimum. If I don't put the light on, I'll fall back asleep in about 10 minutes.
