Review of the Integrated Heated Humidifier for the PB 420X

Post by Janelle » Wed Feb 16, 2005 2:31 pm

I received my new Heated Humidifier for my 420E this morning. THe Head RT, a long time CPAP user said there was one thing he really didn't like about it and I have to agree.

In order to keep moisture from getting in the CPAP unit, the tank must be removed every day and not replaced until you will use the unit. Now, this is easier said than done and requires pushing down and pulling or pushing out the tank at the same time. I imagine it would loosen up with use but right now it is very difficult. Putting it in is much like the old FP Heated humidifier as there is a spring-loaded bar in front that is pushed down allowing the tank to be loaded. Unlike the FP, the bar does not come back up but is left under the tank. Two indentions in the side support of the unit keep it in place.

A good design idea is including a "key", although you can just use your hands, to separate the tank from it's metal base for cleaning. Wish they had had this with the FP.

Yes, it does have a separate electrical cord, not an integrated one as the original design touted. Rats.

While the size is very good, and it's quiet, even with my setting on '2' I use up almost all of the water, but I wash it daily. The ''key'' they provided is quite flimsy, I don't see it lasting forever. I tried to use a dull edge knife, but the metal base is thin, so I don't to warp it.

As a tip, to avoid excess humidity build up in the tank, One tip I do, is leave the hose connection off till I'm ready to go to bed, and also do not turn it on, till I'm going to bed about 10 mins before, as it eats up water. Also I'm noticing a little more rainout in my nasal pillow, but it's really not bad. It's just new and different. I had an old ''loaner'' htd humikdifier so I have to get used to this new one. But size definitely is better. I have the 420E plopped on top, and it fits nicely. But the washing instructions say to wash the tank daily anyhow.
