Solution to Full Face Mask Leaks !?

Post by Guest » Wed Feb 16, 2005 1:29 pm

I have suffered like many since starting cpap therapy. It hasn't been a miracle cure for me until recently. I have gotten so much from this forum, I could never repay the knowledge I've gained by some very smart people (SWS, Muck, Rested Gal, and the quick wit of Liam, to mention only a few) but I wanted to share this success in the hopes that it may help someone like I have been helped.

I've been through 5 months of hell. Several masks, chin straps, sleep meds, and cpap machines. Felt worse than ever but.... finally... I found what appears to be a winning combination.

I'm a mouth breather and settled on a FF mask. Like many have said it leaked like crazy but seemed to be my only choice. One night I discovered that my jaw drops when I start to fall asleep. I soon noticed that my FF mask leaks correlated to my mouth dropping. I was never getting to "sleep". I soon tried my respironics chin strap with my FF mask. I never slept better. No mask leaks at all but my chin was sooo sore from the strap. The good news was I could loosen the mask. While doing more "research" I ran across chin-up strips (http://www.chin-up.com/). No one seemed to know much about them on the forum so I ordered some. They work great ! No leaks and I am sleeping through the night. I am finally feeling the treatment work. They are similar to the breathe right strips which I also wear (deviated septum). They stick great and come off easy with water. It peels right off in the shower.

I was about to give up and just suffer with my apnea. I have read about so many who to give up and I understand why. There is a solution out there that will work just keep trying. It may not be this one but there is one. I was at my lowest point in my life when I finally figured this out for myself.

I hope this post helps someone......
