New Symptom

Post by Liam1965 » Wed Feb 16, 2005 6:55 am

Interesting symptom. Any thoughts?

Last night, I woke up around 12:30 when my wife came up to bed (she doesn't need as much sleep as I). At that time, my neck REALLY hurt from sleeping at an odd angle to accomodate the Ultra Mirage.

Anyway, the odd symptom is this: She said I had a definite fever. I was significantly hot to the touch, probably in the range of 101 or so.

Now, I've not had a fever or any disease WITH fever for quite some time, and my normal body temp is around 97.6.

Well, after she woke me up, and with the stiff neck, I couldn't get back to sleep, so I took the mask off and spent a little time on cpaptalk.com. About 15 minutes later, I decided to see if my temperature was up (should have done it at the first), and I got the thermometer. My wife said that I was no longer hot to the touch, and sure enough the temp registered as 97.5.

So, was this something to do with sleep, with CPAP, with the stiff neck, or just a fluke?

Liam, who TOLD y'all he was one hot dude.

Liam, That's what it must have been!!! Your wife was just letting you know how HOT You are with your Mask on!!!

Silly.... you can still get sick! I think! After all, cpap or apap or whatever you fancy, is not a miracle machine! We all can still get sick! Maybe you where having "Hot Flashes"?

But on the serious side of things.... I truly don't know... I am new at all this too! But I would assume it was just a fluke or maybe you had the heat on your machine and it was blowing on you to make you feel hot?

Once you find out... please let the rest of us know.. I am curious to see what it was.

Thanks! Keep in the Shade!!

"Insomniacs have higher core body temperatures and metabolisms than normal sleepers. "

Interesting...

Wow, it's been a while since I posted that one.

The interesting thing is, I'm clearly a regular insomniac, and yet my core temperature is usually in the 97.X range, about a degree low.

Then again, I've always been a bit different.

Liam,

I'm not sure if your situation is similar to mine or not. This past week I finally got to a point where I'm getting about four hours of sleep per night on the APAP. The strange thing is I've been feeling awful and running a fever. Like you, my temp also runs in the mid-97 range, but it's been running in the mid-99 range for a few days. I'm convinced I don't have a virus. I'm really thinking it may be the APAP. The more hours I get, the more likely I am to feel feverish and yucky the next day.

I'm guessing that the APAP is raising my metabolism and since my body is not used to that the result is a fever. I figure that if that's the case, it should get better eventually as my body gets used to this.

Do you think you have a virus or do you think the APAP is doing making you run a fever? Do you have a fever the following day or only at night?

Thanks.

Liam,

I have had the stiff neck problem plenty of times. What kind of pillow are you using?

I switched to a memory foam, the one that has the down cover surrounding it. Bought it at WalMart $22.97. I love it!

Hey, Sleeping WTE,

That is so funny. I just bought the same pillow last night after work and I like it a lot after only one night.

When I use my chin strap instead of putting a band-aid over my mouth to keep my mouth shut, I get a sore neck. I think its because its holding my jaw in one place and my jaw is not allowed to relax and open up. That's what my chiropractor said.

Some nights are better than others. Last night as far as the machine, mask goes, I ripped it off at 4a.m. Don't have the foggiest why? I am seriously going to get an Aussie Heated Hose. I think there are more pros than cons on this item.

Actually, everone's body runs a little hot at some point in the day. Mine used to be between 9:30 and 10:00 a.m. when I was in high school I used to take advantage of this to get out of class.
