teeth discoloured!

Post by jean19540_0 » Wed Feb 16, 2005 6:54 am

hello again, i have been on cpap since the 29th december 04 & doing very well, although still need a nap during the day, but i'm definatly sleeping better & my sore nose as now healed.
but i seem to have developed another problem, my front teeth have discoloured quite badly, i dont smoke or anything like that, so why would that happen? as anyone else noticed the same problem? no matter how much i try i cant get rid of the staining, any idea's about that also its all only happened since starting cpap & only become realy noticeable over this past couple of weeks. i look forward to your replies jean

I suppose we should ask the obvious first. Are they your teeth or are they made of wood or some exotic material ? Have you always been meticulous with your oral hygine ? Are you using a Oracle mouth device?

Some folks grow a colony of bacteria on there teeth. The new airflow disrupts this colony and they leave unsightly stains.

There are other causes also. Have you changed your brand of coffee or tea ?
Have you changed toothpaste brand ? Are you taking other medications ?

Sorry I asked more questions than I provided answers

hi, firstly, my teeth are made of the very finest of enamal, (natures own) secondley, my oral hygene, is, & always as been a very high priority to me ie, brush twice daily, floss regualy, get my teeth examined 6 monthly, + brush my tonge, so i hope its not an hygene thing. i have not changed my toothpaste in the last 18 months at all, but i do take a whole host of medication for various problems, some of which are keeping me alive. the only medication that as altered lately is, iron tablets, which were given to me by my gp some 4 weeks ago, but i have had these before with no problems, so i cant see it being those.
i realy cant think of anything else thats changed apart from the cpap, & i do have to wear a fullface mask, my thought was & its probably way out, is, if that air is whistleing through your mouth all night, your mouth & teeth are dry, i just wondered if staining would occure. sorry if i've given you all a brain teaser, its certainly teaseing my brain. my teeth are obviously not looking their best right now, & i feel extremly embarased by them.
pleeezzzze you lot out there, rescue me from looking like, "steptow"...
look forward to your replys, jean

Jean,

Do you use oxygen with your cpap?

If so, the combination of the iron tablets and the oxygen may be discoloring your teeth more than you experienced before.
Sincerely,
