Re: Memory Problems???

Disrupted sleep hampers cognitive function, but I have been using CPAP for 5 years and my memory problems remain (although I sleep much better ). I'm not that old so I blame it on the meds!

Re: 4th cpap anniversary -- Yea!

Congratulations! I just glanced at my profile and realized (with a shock) that I passed the 5 year mark sometime in August. Considering how tough the beginning was, It is amazing to me that CPAP has become second nature. I recently left the power cord behind when we went on a cruise and those 3 nigh...

Re: Cool Air

This is a little off topic, but could save someone time and money. I have had an Aussie heated hose for 3 years and suddenly it stopped working. I figured that 3 years was probably the life span of the hose and its wiring so I ordered a new one. The new hoses now come with an AC adapter. On a whim I...

I go about a year. That is when mine begin to leak uncontrollably (another way of saying losing their flexibility).

Re: Poll How many days a week do you exercise

I have to exercise to keep my sanity. Releases stress (big time), helps my insomnia and I keep weight off. There are days that all I want to do is fall in front of the TV, but I force myself to the basement and do my 30 minutes on the elliptical (and always feel better for it).

Re: humidifier cleaning

About twice a year I dump the water and give the chamber a quick soak with vinegar/water, rinse well, and start over just adding distilled water as needed. You people do NOT want to to know how long it has been since I have cleaned my humidifier tank! I only use distilled water (except when traveli...

Re: Am I alone?

You are definitely not alone. My issues with nasal blockage problems predate my apnea by many years. My first defense was using afrin, which I continued to use until it made the problems far worse. I agree with your anti-Afrin stance! I finally went to an ENT and found out my septum was severely dev...

Re: Sinus Irrigators

I have been using a Waterpik for years. You can get a nasal attachment. Also, I make my own solution (2 tsp salt in a quart bottle of boiled water). Works great!

Re: Headrest deconstruction and gender

I recently ordered my third one of these masks (the straps begin to go after about a year). I would not even consider using anything else. It is so comfortable, there are times when I wake up and night and have to check to see if the mask is really on my face. I had to use the rubber band trick on m...

Re: Nasal Crusting after turbinate reduction

I have had turbinate reduction surgery twice (as well as deviated septum corrected). Don't let the crust issue keep you from having the procedure. It is completely controllable by rinsing you nasal cavity with saline solution. The saline rinse will loosen up the crusts and flush them out. In any eve...

Re: Nasal Rinse Schmazel Vince!

I use a Waterpik with a soft nasal attachment. Been doing it for at least 5 years. I also make my own saline solution (quart of boiled water and 2 teaspoons of salt). I rinse as needed (more in the winter). Rinsing has made a huge difference in reducing stuffiness and dryness and has helped cut down...

I have nothing to add to this incredible example of how a group of strangers linked only by a common condition can cross international and cultural boundaries to help a single fellow human. As I read these posts I realize how lucky I am to be blessed with 2 beautiful and healthy children. I have mad...

I had the same fear when I was first diagnosed (most of probably did). Turned out to be a bit of a process but I quickly found strapping on the mask to be just part of my bedtime routine. Nearly 3 years later I cannot sleep without the mask.
