Now I really don't understand...

Post by derek » Sun Feb 13, 2005 2:54 pm

I started a thread yesterday "My first night on RemStar Auto - what gives?"
viewtopic.php?t=1311
in which I wondered why the machine was hovering around the minimum pressure setting.

Last night I set the minimum pressure to 6 cm.

Now after two nights I have had a chance to look at the data with Encore Pro, here's a summary (each night was approx. 8 hours). The first number in each pair is Night 1, the second is Night 2:

OAI: 0, 0

HI: 0.5, 0

90% Pressure 9, 7.5

So, in 2 nights on APAP I've had 0 apneas, 4 hyponeas, a few flow limitations, and a few snores (which I think were actually caused by a hose full of water).
I was diagnosed with an AHI = 35, and was prescribed CPAP at 12 cm H2O three months ago.

My signature is starting to look more and more true

The Encore data reflects post-treatment statistics. Your 90% pressure implies that your Remstar Auto hiked pressure in reponse to snore, flow limitation, hypopnea, and/or apnea events. It seems to be treating you!

You changed your closing signature to match your data!

So if your AHI is > 5 in the reports, then you the machine is not set properly? I am averaging AHI's between 2 and 5.5 so far (5.5 was with a bad leak) and I have not have a night yet that is 0... Wonder how folks are getting 0

Bad leaks can skew subtle AutoPAP sleep-event detection routines. That in and of itself can account for an elevated AHI. It is rare for AutoPAP patients to experience an AHI of 0.0, BTW.

Derek,

To sum up the responses to this post your signature should be revised to:

...Who definately has OSA, but is glad he bought an "Auto" machine because his pressure requirements are probably not near the 12cm the Sleep Lab suggested.

More than a signature change

Mucky,
I hope you are right. The lower pressure with C-Flex is so much more comfortable.
AutoPAP with C-Flex rules!
