ED and Sleep Apnea

Post by jeepdoctor » Thu Aug 31, 2006 5:13 pm

Someone asked the other day about things to convince folks that they should stay on their treatment regimen. There are lots of good reasons to do so in the following articles, especially for the men. Interesting references follow.

My sleep apnea gave me very severe ED. Since starting CPAP treatment I have started to get nocturnal erections again which is very encouraging. I'm still not back to my former self while awake though and have trouble performing well. I also seem to have a very low libido now

Has anyone fully recovered from ED after going on CPAP? How long does recovery normally take? What about libido will that return eventually too?

As embarrassing as it is to admit, especially for a female, I have had decreased libido for at least 3yrs now, I'm lucky I'm not divorced!! I'm hoping it will improve too.

I've been on apap for about a year now and it has yet to cure all of my symtoms. But I can say the biggest difference has been an increased sex drive, my poor wife aint getting any rest so stick with it there's hope yet (and lots of fun too)

Sexual dysfunction is an apparently a common result of apnea. I know its affected me. I suspect its difficult for many people to talk about and accept this side effect. I don't think your comment is very helpful as we are supposed to be supportive of each other here. It takes courage to discuss this type of problem in public... The more we talk about issues the more we will realize we are not alone find out there is hope for improvement.

Well ... just click the Back button .... and don't come back to this thread!

Ok ... guess I can make a contribution now ... but parental discretion is advised ... so click the back button if it is waaaaay too much.

When I was in my late teens-early 20's I used to wake up with morning wood just about every morning. By the time I was in my late 20's to early 30's it only occured about once every two or three days. During my late 30's it was more like every other week. After turning 40, I was obviously having ED problems and my doc put me on Cialis.

Since going on CPAP a little over a month ago I have woken up with morning wood at least twice a week and its becoming more frequent. As I understand it, it is likely due to an improvement in my circulatory system plus lots more REM sleep time ... yep lotsa dreams lately. I have not used Cialis at all this month and I have plenty of energy ... wife is pleased and so am I.

Apology

Thanks, hornplayer, for the apology. I know how you feel as I've put my foot in my mouth on more than one occasion here.

ED is a very difficult subject to broach in the privacy of a doctor's office let alone on a public forum. Kudos to all of you who contributed.

As for me, I had results similar to Roberto's (DreamStalker) after 4 - 6 weeks on CPAP. There is no question in my mind that the therapy was solely responsible as I was taking no medications whatsoever, never smoked, was in great health otherwise, and, if anything, slightly underweight.

Sometime between the third and fifth month of therapy, EVERYTHING returned to normal. I have never felt better, and my wife is thrilled. By the way, I'll be 65 in January.

Me too

Post by cwsanfor » Wed Sep 06, 2006 3:58 pm

I apologize for what is a "me too" post to a thread which appears to be near closing, and I'm sort of reserved on these forums, but it may be useful to new or prospective xPAP users for me to add that I've experienced xPAP to benefit all vascular systems and most or all psychological ones. We all seem to be pleased at our house. It's actually been fairly remarkable.

Ehh ... don't worry bout it man -- so long as you don't quit your day job.

Har har har ... Ok, I apologize too.

Aey Amigo! You look like you be closer to 35 ... I hope my CPAP treatment can make me look 30 years younger ... well maybe 20 would be better.
