Masks (including oracle) and nasal surgery

Post by Poisson » Wed Feb 09, 2005 11:28 am

I am scheduled for surgery to fix a deviated septum. I'm worried that I won't be able to use my beloved autopap for about a week after the surgery.

Q1: Does anyone have any experiences with using an autopap immediately after nasal surgery?

I asked about using a full face mask immediately after surgery. I was told that a full face mask would not be acceptable. However, a mouth only mask would be okay. I gather the oracle is such a mask. I am a little confused since I would have thought that the air pressure with an oracle mask would be pushing against the packing in the nose (as if exhaling) while the full face mask would be more likely to be balanced with the air pressure would be on both ends of the packing.

Q2: Does anyone have any experience with either the oracle or a full face mask in general or immediately after nasal surgery? (I'm using the pb 420e if it makes any difference)

'Til now, I've been using the Breeze w/nasal pillows. I'm wondering if my nose will be so tender even after the packing has been removed that I won't want to use nasal pillows.

Q3: Has anyone experienced problems with the breeze w/nasal pillows even after removal of the packing in the nose after nasal surgery?

I had a tumor removed from my nose . Was no problem at all. I could actually breathe . Used a regular nasal mask. Dont know about septum repair.

Cheers,
