Auto/C-Flex & air ingestion?

Post by Noheir » Sun Feb 06, 2005 10:06 am

I've been using a Remstar + for about a year and I'm only getting about 3 hours sleep per night because I fill up with air (like the Michelen man). I've tried a chin strap to no avail....might the Auto/C-flex design increase my sleep time? Thanks, Noheir

Same problem

Post by Sleeping With The Enemy » Sun Feb 06, 2005 10:23 am

I'm having the same problem, except I don't have a chin strap. I am using the Remstar Plus with C-Flex. From what I understand from those who have more experience on this forum, SWITCH TO AN AUTO TITRATION MACHINE, LIKE THE REMSTAR AUTO C-FLEX WITH HUMIDIFICATION.

I know where your coming from, good luck.

I was quite surprised to find out that my Remstar Pro-2 with CFLEX came with the CFLEX option turned off.

Make sure it's on, if you're having problems that CFLEX is supposed to solve.

(By the way, I've also, in private, heard from a few people who found the CFLEX actually made breathing HARDER. A particular case of slow/shallow breathing, I think. So if you're having troubles with a CFLEX machine, it's probably also worth trying turning OFF CFLEX for a night or two. And keep in mind that CFLEX has 3 different "levels" (4 if you count "off"). They don't do that just for fun, they do it because different people will prefer and respond well to different levels of CFLEX)

Liam who, as a computer programmer, keeps wondering if he should start looking for C++-FLEX.

I would suggest you contact your Dr. and ask him if it wuld be ok to have your DME to lower your pressure just a bit. Unless you like swallowing air and its unpleasant consequences. Or you could ask some of the fine folks on this site if they can "walk you through" lowering the pressure.

Auto paps arent any good. Heck AWAKE Dave isnt to keen on them from an earlier post. He used one for one night years ago and it didnt work for him.

Yes autos are the future. You can always use it as astraight cpap should yoube one of the few that dont adjust well to them.

On the other hand if you like swallowing air you could always get a side job inflating baloons at the fair.

I too had trouble with air ingestion when I first started out.

Now I use a full face mask and don't have as much of a problem. Sure, I still have a little ingestion, but nothing like I had when I was waking in the middle of the night because I thought my stomach was going to explode.

I currently use a ResMed Mirage Series 2 Full Face Mask. Not only did it help with the ingestion, I have had it for over a year and a half and it is still holding up fine.

By the way, facial hair is not a problem with a full face mask either. I have a full beard, and do not have any leaking problems. I keep my beard trimmed short, which probably helps. But I have gone through full beard, goatee, just mustache, and clean shaven with this mask and it fits all the different scenarios.

Good luck!

I usually wake in the morning feeling bloated by air which if it doesnt come out your mouth or nose it must come out else where and IT DOES. If I awake at night or when I wake in the morning I must fart a couple times, I know this is a hard post to take seriously, but this is an issue I've only had for the few months that i've been on the cpap. My question is am I swallowing too much air or something my pressure is at 10 with a ramp-up.
