AirFitP10 Question
I'm trying to the AirFitP10 mask instead of the Simplus. Since I'm a mouth breather, my doctor suggests that I use the Respironics deluxe chin strap with it. I have tried that before and it makes my head feel like it's going to explode. If I loosen it, then it doesn't keep my mouth closed. Anyway to use the AirFitP10 successfully without a chin strap, if you're a mouth breather? I do like the lighter weight and no headgear, not so bulky as the Simplus.

Re: AirFitP10 Question
The right size cervical collar fixed that problem for me. Threw my chin straps away within few nights.

Re: AirFitP10 Question
Which chin strap?

IMHO there are "better" chin straps out there or at least more comfortable. They aren't supposed to be vise grip tight holding the jaw.
They are supposed to be gentle reminders to keep the jaw from dropping. They are supposed to be gentle reminders to not open the lips...besides a person can mouth breathe with their teeth clinched together...it's the lips that do the parting.
Have you ever tried taping?
The Ruby seems to be well thought of..you can see it here

Forum member JayAitchsee uses a little different approach and gently closes the mouth and keeps it close with this Scunci thing....scroll down to where he shows a picture and describes how it is used.

And yes...some people do well with a cervical collar if their problem is jaw drop and they keep their lips closed otherwise.
The cervical collar holds the jaw upwards by supporting it to discourage jaw drop.

Re: AirFitP10 Question
Great information, Pugsy. Thanks. I did just buy a cervical collar. Will try it with the P10. Hopefully, that will work. I really like the P10.

Re: AirFitP10 Question
The "Deluxe" chin strap is what she recommended. I've tried a number of chin straps over the years. The "Deluxe" was the only one that really helped.

Re: AirFitP10 Question
Trying a cervical collar with the nasal pillow but needs adjusting. The cervical collar is keeping my mouth closed - and not so much buildup of air in my mouth - but it's very bulky and uncomfortable and hot. Also bothered by the whooshing sound the nasal pillow makes. Any suggestions? Thank you.
Re: AirFitP10 Question
One thing I noted in shopping for a cervical collar to try is that no two are alike. One may be very rigid, another very soft (personally I would opt for the softer). Also, size matters - when wearing it, it should not be so tall that you feel like you are being forced to look upward nor should it be so short that it allows your jaw to open too much. It comes down to a search for comfort as well as control. I ended up with five different collars, none of which did the trick for me. I have tried taping with a variety of mechanisms and all worked well - too well (the skin around my mouth became irritated and aerophagia increased since I could not part my lips to release the air in my mouth). Finally, I have come back to the first solution I tried nearly ten years ago: a chinstrap (specifically, the Ruby). CPAP.com has a video that outlines some of the characteristics and considerations to keep in mind when choosing a chinstrap: https://youtu.be/4bCbkbOXPrIlwieland11 wrote:Trying a cervical collar with the nasal pillow but needs adjusting. Re: AirFitP10 Question
Thanks, Jim. Wish there was a way to get used to the nasal pillow itself. I have been practicing with it but I can't seem to get comfortable.
