Help with Airfit P10 Nasal pillows

Post by zilch » Mon May 22, 2017 9:45 pm

Hi,

I've only been on Cpap for two weeks and already notice a difference!

I wear the Dreamwear mask and don't like how it leaks a little and I lose half the airflow when I sleep on my side. Otherwise it's great.

I bought the Airfit P10 on Amazon after reading about it in forums. However, I can't get the hang of the nasal pillows. The small and medium ones go up my nostril and stretch it. I woke up sore. The large seem to press up against my nostrils and I'm afraid they'll get irritated. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Thanks!

I have used this mask for several years now. I use the large pillows. The pillow should not go up into your nostrils but, rather sit just under the nose. When the pillow is new, my nose gets a little irritated but the only last one night and is not very bad.
Make sure the headgear is right for you (blue or pink). I need the blue since the pink was too tight and really pushed the nasal pillow into the bottom of my nostrils. The headgear will stretch a bit and that makes difference too.
Hope that helps.

I use the P10 and last night I had a bad night. I woke up sore and my nostrils felt stretched. Throughout the night I had the impression they were leaking slightly too. I was bummed because normally I have had good nights with the P10. As I was taking off the mask I realized it was on upside down. When I flipped it right side up and put the mask back on, comfort returned. That will be the last night I put the mask on with the lights off.

I am on my 3rd night of trying the P10. To tell which strap was "the right side up", I put a Resmed mask pad cover on only the strap the would go at the top of my head. That way, I can put it on in the dark, and I know which strap is the top one.

Two ways to tell whether the P10 pillows are upside down:

1. The pillows should angle downward, not upward. You can feel a downward-angled hard plastic extension between the top of the pillows and the mask. There is similar hard plastic piece between the bottom of the pillows and the mask.

2. The soft plastic that extends horizontally left-to-right below the two pillows is more concave than the similar soft, horizontal plastic above the two pillows.

or just feel for the smooth plastic that's on the side that goes closest to the face, right where the size letter is.

only the soft tips of the pillow should go into the nostril, the large ridge sits on the opening of the nostril. look on youtube for videos showing the proper fit.

I'm also fairly new to CPAP, and those were among the masks my provider recommended I test. I found they worked, but also kind of hurt my nose. If you like the premise of pillows rather than masks, I'm loving the Fisher & Paykel Brevida. It doesn't "jam" into the nostrils like hollow corks. It's soft silicone-type stuff that just fits in loosely as the rest of it gently holds onto your nose. It doesn't stretch the nostrils at all, and is very gentle. I did get a CPAP pillow (like, a sleeping-on pillow), and with that, even on my side or 3/4 stomach, it's surprisingly secure without being "clamped". https://www.fphcare.co.nz/homecare/slee ... s/brevida/

YMMV.
I'm a newbie. If I do something stupid, just let me know and I'll try to fix it.
