Dental Device to treat both TMJ And Sleep Apnea

Does anyone know of a dental device that will treat both TMJ and Sleep Apnea? I'm unable to tolerate the cpap machine anymore and haven't been able to wear it consistently in a couple years. My anxiety is too bad and I am having chronic sinus infections and migraines. I'm in therapy and am being treated for anxiety/ocd and am working with a good neurologist but cpap is not looking like it will be an option anymore. I really appreciate any guidance someone can give me.

First of all please try to stick to one thread so we can keep track of your whole story... but if you have diagnosed "migraines" vs the a.m. headaches you asked about in the other note, that's a different story... but I suspect you're just referring to those and not actual migraines. In any case, I'm not aware of a device that treats apnea and TMJ and maybe a dentist might help. If your anxiety is just about wearing/using Cpap, we may be able to help you adjust - you may not have had good advice when starting out re mask fitting, pressure setting, etc. and those are important to succeeding with it.

I use a CPAP Resmed S9 and can't imagine sleeping without it. Have been using it for 15 years. Prior to my diagnosis, I suffered from severe headaches from lack of sleep. My wife went to her dentist who fitted her with a mouth guard that allows her to adjust over time. For her, this worked very well. No snoring with the devise and her apnea is gone as well with the oral device. Far better than those where you mold them yourself

I've been trying to get things straight for years so I can sympathize with you. One of my dentists checked and said he didn't find anything to help TMJ AND sleep apnea. I use a night guard AND use the CPAP machine, chin strap and nasal headgear. I've found, that at least for me, Dreamwear is the least intrusive of all the headgear. Wearing all this gear looks abominable, but what other choices are there? If you find a solution, please let me know. I'm sure there are lots of us with TMJ and sleep apnea. If we're lucky, someone will invent one (and will probably make a small fortune). Good luck in finding a solution!

Night guards have to be made by dentists. Some people make their own with a kit bought from a drug store, but they''re second rate imo. TMJ is a serious and painful jaw condition.

While the dentist made night guards are certainly better IMO the boil n bite guards can be helpful for a number of reasons...
1 they are more affordable
2 serve as a backup
3 I keep one packed in my travel bag nothing like forgetting once you get used to sleeping with one
4 can be bought to use today
5 help to train one to keep the mouth closed while sleeping
6 not everyone has dental insurance to pay $250 for the dentist made version so the boil n bite certainly makes it fairly easy to try and see if this can work

Yes, that'll work, too, for some people. It depends on the dentist, too. My experience was so bad I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. It was unfathomable the dentist couldn't copy a bite guard from an exact photo. Long story short, he broke a crown. The aftermath was a horrendous fiasco. Too long a story to share, but I'd have saved myself a huge expense. He made a horrible and very expensive mistake (for me) by not copying the exact photo. Yes, a drug store guard will probably work better going to a dentist who doesn't know what he's doing and won't admit his mistake.
