Trying Philips Respironics Dreamware Nasal Mask

Post by CPAPLowspark » Sun May 21, 2017 9:09 am

Trying this mask out, and it's making my right nostril feel sore in the morning. I've only tried it for two nights...sleeping well with it and low AHI, but the nose thing is bothersome. Any thoughts as to what may be causing this?

Having used this mask in the past about the only thing I can think of when someone is having some tenderness or soreness in one specific small area is that for some reason the mask isn't fitted quite optimally for that particular area.
Like maybe you are laying in a position that causes more pressure or something to that area or maybe the cushion moves around a little bit more in that area for some reason.

Like maybe if you sleep on your right side there's a bit more pressure on that area...or if you sleep on your left side the right side might move just a bit.

Or maybe the tension on that back strap isn't just "right".
Also consider trying a different size cushion if yours came with the other sizes.
Sometimes the solution is simply a different size.

Usually when there is discomfort...there's poor fit or incorrect size involved.

Or finally maybe you need a different size frame for optimal fit.
I just recently got the gel pillow version of the DreamWear...I never bothered with trying a different size frame when I did the cushion experiment but decided to try the small frame instead of the medium frame (which I knew was maybe a tiny bit too big) and to my huge surprise the small frame made a huge difference in overall fit and comfort.

Since brand new to the mask...before spending a bunch of money...I would check sleeping position and fit correlation and if the nostril issue is very minor maybe use some Lansinoh lanolin ointment/cream to lessen the discomfort and promote healing.

I just spent my second night with this headgear. The first night I had a bit of soreness on the bottom outside edge of a nare (nostril). I was wearing small cusion, which the guide said was appropriate for my nose. I moved up to the "M" size for last night and felt 100% better.

I've been PAPping for about 10 years; the improvement in masks has been wonderful. While the jury is still out for me and the dreamwear, so far this gear seems

FREAKING AWESOME!!!

errrr. Was that out loud?

I tried the medium the first night and noticed a quick spike in my pressures when I was trying to go to sleep. The second night I tried the "medium wide" and pressure felt much better...but noticed the sore nose. 3rd night with MW, same result, fine sleep, great AHI and pressures but slight soreness in nostril that now by 3:00pm has disappeared all together.

I am going to try going on "auto" for my humidity and temp tonight to see if maybe that helps...

I've used the Dreamware Mask for a few months now. I have good nights and bad nights. I can't seem to find that "perfect fit" with the mask. The main issue that I have is air leakage. Overall it is much better than other masks that I have tried. I am going to try the "medium wide" pillow tonight.

Good luck!

The respiratory tech I talked with today said that lucky guys like me with little to no hair on top seem to do better with the dreamwear frame. In my case I find that the silicone(?) sides of the frame get a little "sticky" after a few minutes of wear so I can (re)position them and they stay put.

That wouldn't be the case as much if you're using the covers on the frame.

I though I had a large nose, but I was right on the border of small/medium with this mask's fitment guide.

I do wish you luck in getting the perfect fit

Rarely, it irritates the inside of my nose at the front edge of the septum when it shifts sideways and bends the tip of my nose sideways so that it rubs against the septum.

My much more frequent problem is that I have to make numerous tiny adjustments to the mask position to avoid leaks. For some reason I sometimes cannot stop the leaks even after lots of fiddling.
