Cpap experience

Post by Jasba64 » Wed May 10, 2017 8:24 am

Been on Cpap therapy since October 2016. Have had 2 sleep studies performed and am on a pressure of 9.
I have no problem falling asleep but wake up every 2 hours all night or day, depending on what shift I am working or when I am off of work.
As soon as I fall asleep, I start dreaming. Sometimes I start dreaming before I am fully asleep. I dream all night and wake up basically every 2 hours remembering my dream. My dreams are usually nightmares or non pleasant dreams.
I try not to nap but when I do, my naps are 2 to 3 hours. This is even after sleeping 8-10 hours.
I yawn all day and feel tired.
I read where an increase in REM sleep with a decrease in REM latency may be related to possible narcolepsy.
My father died at age 59 and he had narcolepsy.
I have brain fog quite often.
Headaches 3 times a week.
I seem to be easily irritable.
Have issues focusing/listening due to constantly being tired
Shift worker for 29+ years, work both days and nights. 12 hours each time.
I don't drink nor do I smoke but I did both back in the day. Smoked 27 years but quit 10 years ago. Stopped drinking alcohol 4 years ago.

Just curious if anyone experiences what I do? Will be seeing my neurologist in a couple of weeks. Sleepyhead data gives me results of AHI below 5.

How about posting some sleepyhead charts. You will get better help by doing that. Without charts...it's guesses.

I have been all over the board with pressures over the months on this therapy. It doesn't matter what pressure I am on, I still have the same results.

Sleep apnea is just one item on a very long list of potential culprits for crappy sleep.
CPAP can only fix crappy sleep that is caused by sleep apnea...it can't fix crappy sleep caused by something other than sleep apnea no matter how much we want to blame OSA for all our problems.

My internet speeds wouldn't allow me to load your images today but if I remember right from past posts your software reports aren't very exciting. Meaning on paper it looks like your OSA is well treated so nothing just standing out screaming "fix me and you will sleep better".

Narcolepsy needs to be ruled in or out.
BTW....we can dream in any sleep stage...doesn't necessarily have to be the REM stage though of course REM is the most common sleep stage.

When the pressures (min) was at 11-12-13 your AHI was really good. Why did you drop back to 9? Have you tried fixed pressure of 12?

I ended up changing the pressure because I had a 2nd Sleep Study performed. The Center said I had no episodes with a pressure of 9. I also read where your health can be in danger if you are on the wrong pressure with Cpap therapy. I will agree, my AHI was much better at a higher pressure. I see my the Neurologist soon and I will have a lengthy conversation with him.

*Oxygen level is fine. That's the first question I asked the sleep tech. The lowest was 89% but normally in the 90's.

You AHI should not be higher than 5. However, that's an arbitrary number that was picked in the early days of sleep medicine. It should be quite a bit lower than that. It can not go too low (zero is fine), so no worry there.

While your symptoms suggest possible Narcolepsy, but you should get you Apnea under control first. Otherwise, your test for Narcolepsy may be inconclusive.
