Questions Concerning Air Sense 10 and "My Air"

Post by Comfortably Numb » Sun May 07, 2017 8:23 am

Last night I was out partying late (for a 69 yr. old) and was in bed by 11:30. I forced myself to try a second night with the Amara View and was pleased with my ability to breathe, etc. I think I may have had the nasal port improperly fitted a couple of nights ago when I gave up on this mask. Anyway, I slept comfortably for 8 hrs +/- and did not have any dry mouth at all (I am using just under one tank of water per night with the humidifier set to Auto).

I haven't had an opportunity yet to try the Sleepy Head program. I've downloaded the latest version, but haven't put an S/D in the machine yet. So for last night, I used ResMed's "My Air" program to monitor my progress. This morning I was very disappointed to see my score of 31. It was based on the following: Use Hours 1/70; Good Seal 20/20; 0 events/hr 5/5; 1 mask on'off 5/5; total score 31/100. Obviously if I had been credited for the hours I truly slept during the monitoring event, my score would have been 100! I looked on the Airsense unit and it indicated Usage Hours of 8:24.

It slowly dawned on me that my entire report this morning (May 7th) was probably based on 30 minutes of usage that occurred prior to midnight on May 6th. I can't access data yet for May 7th when most of my sleep "last night" took place. So my questions are as follows: Am I correct in assuming that I won't be able to see May 7th early a.m. data until after midnight tonight (the morning of May 8th)--and that the May 8th report will only include what occurred prior to midnight on May 7th? Are the Usage Hours indicated on the machine (8:24) a grand total from the beginning or do they reflect last night only (for which I only have a partial "My Air" report)? For the purposes of reporting to my provider, does the Air Sense 10 call in every day and then start with a clean slate? Is there a place on the unit to find total hours of machine usage? I estimate that I've used the machine for at least 16+ total hours so far but it's only showing 8:24.

Sorry for the confusion. I realize I should be using Sleepy Head, but that's going to require some serious discipline from my computer illiterate self. It looks like I'm on the way to getting good treatment and if I could see what happened after midnight, I might have scored 100. Comments from anyone who is familiar with Air Sense 10 and/or "My Air" will certainly be appreciated. thanks

Please disregard most of this. The data was "resynced" and now I have a score of 98.

I personally find the MyAir scoring system not very useful as an end user concerned about maximizing treatment effectiveness.
I think it is designed to indicate compliance for insurance purposes so it is weighted heavily on usage time.
For those who are not familiar, this is their scoring breakdown: Usage hours 70%, Mask Seal 20%, "events per hour" (AHI) 5% , mask on.off 5%.
For me, I generally use MyAir as a quick check on leakage (mask seal) & AHI (events per hour). Those values, to me are the most important but only account for 25% of the "score".

Yup, Myair does not have a good reputation.

I appreciate your comments. At this point I'm just happy that I made it through the night comfortably with the Amara view and no events. I want to use the Sleepy Head program but I've done little more than download the latest version. Guess I need to start with an S/D card of some size and begin to learn how it's done. I have glanced at Pugsy's tutorial (great job!) only to recoil in mild panic. A little at a time is the way to go for me.

Any sd card will work. I have put Flash Air cards in our machines so I can download the data without taking the cards out of the machines.

I made the mistake of ordering an ezshare sd card figuring it would do it wirelessly but it only seems to work with image files. I cannot see any way to get the files off of the device onto my computer. It sees the card up there in my machine but only looks for image files.

What card do you use? All the ones I see seem to say for images transfers from camera to computer.

Thanks!! I would love to not have to carry the card all of the place but I seem to have wasted $40.

It is the Toshiba Flash Air III. You can order it from Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-Flash-Wi ... ir+sd+card

I use flashpap to read the card. It is very simple to set up the card and the program.

Thanks for the advice - ordered, received, set up and WORKING PERFECTLY. SO nice to not be having to move that card back and forth all the time!

Thanks - lifesaver!

Hi there,
Just a thought, but is the clock on your CPAP 12 hours out? The machine records a day from 12 noon to 12 noon, not midnight to midnight.

If you sleep from 11:30 pm to 8am, the report should be available on MYAIR approximately 1 hour after you turn your machine off at 8am.

If you slept in until after 12 midday, the part after midday would not appear until the following day.

It might be worth checking.

Thanks. You're exactly right. I've slowly come to learn that the My Air report usually becomes available about an hour or so after I awaken. I'm really paying more attention to Sleepy Head now, and I can see that data as soon as I load my SD card. I originally thought that my DME was using My Air to record/report compliance to my doctor, but I found out last week that he uses an entirely different program. So as I progress with this, I see less and less need for the My Air program.
