Water Chamber OK in Hurricane Dryer?

Post by Grouch » Sat Apr 29, 2017 6:29 pm

I just found out about the Hurricane Dryer and it seems like it would be a huge help. I know I can dry my mask and tubing in there, but is it safe for my water chamber? I have the Airsense Autoset 10 for her.

The manual says not to put the standard chamber in the dishwasher, so I'm unsure if the high heat on the Hurricane could harm it.

If you have not bought the dryer---don't.
Just wash in the evening, when there is no need to dry the tank.

Yes, its ok. Its not that hot like a dishwasher filament. Have been drying both respironics and resmed chambers with one for 4 years.

Thanks for the info, guys. I'll be using it mostly to dry the hose and mask. That way they'll be dry when I go to use them at night. I was just thinking I might as well throw the chamber in there, too, as long as I'm running the machine.

And the point to drying the hose is........?

I use the dryer regularly for hoses, masks and the humidifier chamber. I have found the air is not hot enough to damage equipment. I have been very happy with it, my supplies come out fresh and clean when the cycle is done. The only issue, it does take up storage space. Items just feel cleaner and fresher to me than just air dried.

And then you are going to put water in it, good planning. Jim

I missed this at first. Any reason why not? Are there problems with the machine?

Or is it that you think it's not needed? If that is it, I've gone 5 years without it and have decided I'd like the convenience of not fighting wet tubes in the shower and damp masks adorning the bathroom.

And since I've just had to go to a full face mask and new machine, I don't have spares to use while my parts are drying. I'm a big fan of making sure my tubing and water chamber get a chance to totally dry out between uses to help prevent microbial growth. The Hurricane will help with that.

Yep. Even fairly rigorous cleaning may not get 100% of the bugs that might be trying to grow on the equipment. A constantly damp environment can encourage them to grow. Air drying helps prevent this. As does high heat. As does soap or cleansers.

Now I don't claim to be an expert on CPAP cleaning, but I do have a degree in microbiology. I've seen some really ugly equipment contamination during my stint at a hospital and it scared me. I'm probably a big chicken, but I don't want anything growing on stuff that I'm going to breathe through. Maybe it's overkill, but I'm OK with that.

So, yeah, I want my tubing to get dry for a while, even though I'm going to make it wet again soon.

The bathroom is the most germ laden room in your house and you have been using it to clean XPAP equipment for 5 years, how are you still alive. Getting caught in the rain must be a nightmare for you. A sure panic when the Barometer goes over 50%. I wouldn't even breath the air unless it was coming thru a HEPA filter. Jim

The newest ?Home dryer (not being sold yet) uses ultrasound to improve drying, it is said to take 20 minutes to do a load, and greatly cut down on electric use plus cut wear on the clothes. Just info!

Actually, if you insist on DRYING your mask, hose, and tank, the hurricane dryer can keep you from doing it in the bathroom,
where all your wet things are exposed to clouds of e-coli, every time someone uses and flushes the "throne".
Considering that, go ahead. I just do not feel drying to be necessary.
I would save my money for something that is useful.

You are doing a lot of unnecessary cleaning and causing unneeded wear and tear on your equipment.

You will find that most experienced users wash things only as necessary. Many of us NEVER wash the hose - it simply isn't needed. All that passes through the hose is filtered, clean air and water vapor. And the machine dries the hose automatically after every use - that's why the machine keeps running at a low level when you turn it off in the morning.

The only washing I do is the nasal cushions on the P10 so that I get a good seal. That's it! If the headgear gets too loose, I will remove the strap and wash it in hot water - rarely necessary.

The water tank just gets topped up with distilled water every night. If it ever starts to look dirty or feel slimy inside, I'll give it a quick wash in the sink with dish liquid and let it air dry.

Do whatever makes you happy, but realize that all this cleaning you are doing is not necessary.

I've also had the same dryer for several years, and it is very handy...it uses the proper temperature to do the drying, so no damage, just dry pieces. And there's a place to hook up the long tubing, that actually gets all those water droplets dried out, in case you might care. Living in mold and mildew central (by the ocean), I do care. Don't wash my stuff frequently, but when I do I want it to spend some time dry before I use it again.

Personal preference.

Very smart....The need to clean everything every day to combat "microbial growth", and then hang it all in the most germ infected room in the home to dry.

Yikes! I didn't mean to start a cleaning war. Sorry. I simply had what seemed to me to be an innocent question about whether the Hurricane (which I use in the laundry room) could damage the water chamber. Thanks so much for the feedback I got on that. I'll toss it in when I clean it from now on.

When I mentioned what I do, I was in no way trying to convince others to do that. It was solely to show why the Hurricane makes sense for ME.

I propose that everyone clean/don't clean with the cleanser of their choice, in the room of their choice, and dry/don't dry however they feel comfortable.
