Comparative reviews / scoop on travel CPAP machines?
I have a Resmed Airsense 10 with heated tube for use at home.
I've been using it for about a year and now realize I probably need to get a portable unit but I have no idea what I should should get or look for in a portable unit. ( mostly for use when traveling independently overseas and staying in bed and breakfasts but perhaps very occasionally when camping)
Money is definitely an issue so once I figure out which models are preferable I might look for them used on craigslist.
I would appreciate references to any comparative reviews etc. and recommendations for portable travel CPAP units or preferred features.
Thanks in advance

If you go to cpap.com...travel machines...you will find hundreds of reviews on most machines.dbotas wrote:I have a Resmed Airsense 10 with heated tube for use at home.

Personally, I would take and use the same make & model I use everyday for a variety of reasons. And without knowing your specific Dx and settings it is impossible (and likely irresponsible) to recommend anything else.dbotas wrote:Money is definitely an issue so once I figure out which models are preferable I might look for them used on craigslist.
All that said after spending your extra money you may find out you don't like and are not happy with a diff cpap esp a travel cpap. Take your time and do your research first.

There are 2 new travel size machines coming out. The Phillips Dreamstation GO is just out now. The Resmed MINI is being released in a few weeks. Check both of them out before deciding.

I just use my regular machine. Why begrudge travel space for something so important to my health?

Re: Comparative reviews / scoop on travel CPAP machines?
I know I have UARS instead of OSA / obstructive sleep apnea and that the prescription is for an APAP machine but I'm not sure what the prescribed settings are. I'm checking with my doctor.
I don't want to carry my regular machine as I have been doing because I travel frequently and it constantly creates set up work at both ends / dealing with emptying and filling the distilled water chamber at both ends, I risk losing my essential machine and I normally travel very light with carry-on luggage so arrying a regular size RESMED has been problematic.
Time for a portable machine that I can just leave at my girlfriend's house and / or use when traveling.
Any advice or analytic info on good portable machines or features will be appreciated.
Probably I will choose to buy a good used unit as my second machine rather than pay what it will cost for a new model.
My budget is limited for this
Thanks in advance,

Plenty of discussions on this very topic thru the years. There is an Advanced search feature on the top of each forum page.
My advice stays the same buy a used cpap same make & model that is working for you now to leave wherever you want or travel with.
You do know that you can carry-on any medical device (cpap) and that does NOT count against your carry-on on any airline originating in or departing to any US location, right?

You don't have to use distilled water when travelling unless you'll be gone for many weeks at a time. You can use - if locals do - tap water, and when you get back you can check your tank for any little build-up of gunk and clean it out - it's unlikely though to be a problem and the bunk doesn't affect you, the distilled water is to keep the tank clean only.

Normally that is true except when the water is contaminated which can happen in swampy regions of US etc and 3rd world.
Then it can make u sick. I do travel to 3rd world.

I've traveled heavily throughout Louisiana and Florida. The tap water was always safe for drinking. I had no fears drinking it or using it in the humidifier.

I would not be surprised to find dangerous water in this country, but not always in rural areas . . .

though I doubt heavy metal contamination would be much of a worry in a steam humidifier.

I know there are places where the water smells like sulphur and I would not want that in my humidifier for any reason.
fwiw - I carry enuff distilled for about 3 days when I travel. That should give me time to find some locally. Nothing worse than getting sick when away from home.
