ResMed Heated hose causing mouth to be too dry
ResMed Heated hose causing mouth to be too dry
I have a Res Med Air Sense 10 Auto for her and it recently has gotten where I wake up and my mouth is so dry that it is extremely uncomfortable. I have an Intellipap that I have been using because of this, but the ResMed reports look a lot better to me. Would like to be back on the ResMed. I am fixing to order a new hose and mask, and perhaps the new heated hose will help. Is there a way to turn off the heat on the hose. The humidifier is heating the water already. Do I even need a heated hose. This is the first machine that I have had a heated hose with and have been doing this for years. I have had the Resmed over and year and only recently this has become a problem.

You can go in to the settings an enable independent control over both the heat of the humidifier and the hose. The temp of the hose is important to change if your room air temp is rather low to help control condensation of the humidity in the hose. If your room air is in the 70s for example and your not having any issues with water in the hose you could set the temp to a few degrees above room abient. Or you could turn off the heat altogether. Also you could try raising the temp of your humidifier to make the water evaporate faster wetter air less dry mouth - maybe - a lot will depend on your environment.
I'm also saying all this on the assumption that your using a full face mask and that your not leaking air through your mouth into the room.
If your using a nose only mask but waking to a dry mouth this would indicate your mouth breathing and loosing therapy pressure.
This is also something that you will need to gradually change throughout the year if the temp in your bedroom changes with the seasons. For example, me and my wife don't turn the heat on in the winter unless the air temp gets under 55 degrees. When it's that cold I have my hose temp turned up to 86 degrees and I keep my hose in a insulated fleece hose cover that goes all the way up to the disconnect on my mask. During the summer months we keep the air temp in the low 70s so I change the hose cover to something lite just a soft cotton to make the hose softer and more comfortable to sleep with but not to insulate much. I also lower the hose temp about 10 or 12 degrees.
If you have questions about changing your settings let us know.
Good luck and take care.

In Texas in late April, I would guess you don't need a heated hose and don't even need to heat the humidifier.terry123 wrote:Do I even need a heated hose.

Her equipment profile shows a nasal interface. I suspect something changed and she is mouth breathing causing the dry mouth.

I still use a nasal mask, but also use tape to help remind me to keep my mouth shut.
Re: ResMed Heated hose causing mouth to be too dry
I have gone thru the settings on the ResMed Air Sense 10 and can't find anything on the heated hose. Can anyone tell me how to turn the heat off on the hose?
Re: ResMed Heated hose causing mouth to be too dry
Does anyone that has an Air Sense 10 have any info on turning off the heat on the hose. I have looked thru all the settings and am unable to find anything about the hose. I am wondering if there is something wrong with this particular hose. I have used these for over a year and not had an issue til lately. I have been using my Intellipap recently because of this, but it is not nearly as efficient as the Res Med.

You have to take the humidifier choices all off of any "automatic" choices and make both the humidity choice and the hose air temp choice to manual.
Once the hose air temp is set to manual you can then just turn it off.
