Does sleep therapy cure the apnea problem?
Does sleep therapy cure the apnea problem?
I have been using the CPAP therapy for about six months. Initially it seemed to make a difference and gave me more energy. WE recently went on a trip for about a week and I did not bring my machine along. I don't think I notice any difference in my energy level. Am wondering whether the therapy eventually cures the apnea problem?

Or a hearing aid improves your hearing.
Cpap supplements your defective breathing, allowing you to be healthier, but only as long as you continue therapy.

Feeling good (or OK) for a few days on vacation after using Cpap for a while means nothing and you will eventually feel bad again, never mind what it'll do to your system. As the others said (more or less) you have a condition, not a one time sickness, and it is no more going to be 'cured' than diabetes would be without ongoing therapy. The only way to know for sure that your apnea is gone at any time is to first come off Cpap for a week, THEN have a new sleep lab study. And unless you e.g. underwent bariatric surgery to lose 100+ lbs, it's highly unlikely to let you quit Cpap (tho' there may be better versions to use sometime in the future depending on how medicine progresses).

Agreed - sometimes on holiday I don't use my CPAP, but it really depends on its of factors - alcohol consumption is one of mine, also feel that sleeping on my side or stomach helps - but don't use CPAP for a while, and damn I can feel myself going downhill...
