Water containers

Post by McDreemy » Sat Apr 22, 2017 7:16 am

I have a Philips Respironics water container. Is it safe to clean in the dishwasher ? If so, any recommendations on how to do it and any special instructions?

Yes, it is dishwasher safe (separate the 2 parts), but will not last as long when cleaned in the dishwasher. Always check the area near the screws on the bottom because those can crack and that's typically the place where a leak will spring.

edited to remove link. Thanks Goof. I misinterpreted that.

Here was a previous thread on the subject.

He's talking about HH tanks not masks.

It may surprise you, but a lot of people use the dishwasher to wash everything. That's what it is there for. It will get into the nooks and crannies usually better than you can especially if you have that pink slime. I still hand wash my bro's Respironics bin because, as mentioned, the bins won't last as long if you put them in the dishwasher, even if they are dishwasher safe and I'm handwashing my dishwasher unsafe Resmed bin anyway.

Some are some are NOT.

Since you never mentioned which model you have I would say never try things like this unless and until you have a spare. Should things go wrong you will want an immediate replacement I think.

What does the user manual for the humidifier say?

Mine, for the Respironics Dreamstation humidifier, says the tanks can be either handwashed (daily if desired) or put in the dishwasher (no more than once per week). It is to go in the top rack only. A mild liquid dishwashing cleanser is to be used whether for handwash or machine wash. Wipe the tank inside and out, and let air dry.

Hope that helps.

That is true. My information is true for the 560 and Dream station machines. Won't work for the older ones simply because you can't open them up (my bro's original Respironics is from about 2004).

Ok...ok... let me clarify. If you have a dishwasher that heats the water to 145-165 F (either standard or with a sanitizer option), then you eliminate all the germs and spores. When we bought our dishwasher a few years ago, we couldn't even find a dishwasher that didn't do that, so I just ASSUMED (which was wrong), that everybody has one that heats the water that high. Anyway, the water temperature and length of time eliminates all the germs and spores that you care about. I think it's the banging around in the dishwasher that eventually causes the leaks, but could be the cold/hot thing going on too.

They have found microbes on asteroids in space still alive even after crashing to earth in flames. unless your dishwasher has water temp guages you have no idea if it's working. Commercial dishwashers have temp gauges, if only they had a operator that cared what the water temp was, or could speak English.

On K.P. in the Army, I always took the dishwasher, if they found anything not clean, you had to redo everything in the place. Standards way beyond your local restaurant. Jim
