Advice after searching and not finding relevant posts

Post by lhpangler » Wed Apr 12, 2017 5:07 pm

Hello CPAPers,
I could use a some suggestions. I have used a bipap for many years.

Settings:
IPAP 10
EPAP 6
Rise 600ms
TiMax 4.0
TiMin .5
Monthly AHI 1.0

Lately, I feel like there is too much pressure and my time between inhale and exhale seems slower that what the bipap expects. I have a hard time falling asleep and I think its the bipap. I don't drink coffee or tea

I have a resmed S8 and a resmed S9. The S9 is better but I travel between two locations and this involves the S8.

So I am thinking about lowering the pressure to say 9.5 and 5.5 and see if it stops blowing my head off. But I am not sure about making any other adjustments or what some of the smarter folks might think. I am wondering if I might try changing the rise to 650ms?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions,

best in sleep,
LHP

Try playing with the rise time and see if that helps.
I think you will have more luck changing the timing of the inhale/exhale with rise time than with changing the pressure but it probably wouldn't hurt to do that small of a reduction in pressures though I think you might still feel like it is rushing you even with lower pressures.

I had a similar situation happen to me with my AirCurve in fixed bilevel mode and lengthening the rise time solved the issue for me. It made the timing suit my own breathing rhythm a little better...more natural feeling.

I may have to RISE but I refuse to SHINE.

interesting response and thank you. Rise is between 100 and 900 ms. I wouldn't have thought moving something from a .6 of a second to say .7 of a second could make much of a difference. I need to go fiddle with this.

You might be surprised at how much of a difference in how it feels with just a little change in rise time.
My machine defaulted to 300 msec I think it was and I ended up moving it up to 650 and it really smoothed out the respiration for me and wasn't nearly as abrupt. Much more comfortable. It's all about comfort...try the various settings and see what feels the best and go with it.
