CPAP causing excessive drainage+mucous.

Post by Rogervan » Mon Apr 03, 2017 10:51 am

Hi All, this is my second post.

I had a lot of sinus drainage, and clearing my throat of ropy mucous coming up out of my lungs. The sounds were prodigious. I even made myself hoarse from the clearing of my throat. This probably doesn't seem important, but I couldn't speak in public anymore because the nose and throat sounds were so gross. I had no idea what was happening.

Two weeks ago I sent my machine's card to Lincare so they could examine it's content. I decided to stop using the machine for the duration. During that time the nose-throat problem subsided. I'm back to normal.

I think the BIPAP machine's humidity puts a lot of water into my sinuses and lungs, which I coughed up the next day or two. This is a serious problem.

I know the obvious suggestion is to lower the machine's humidification. Are there any other suggestions about this problem?

Thx, Roger

If the problem is the result of too much humidification then there are 2 choices...reduce or eliminate the humidification.
If the problem was the result of too little humidification the obvious choice would be to add more.

What humidifier setting were you using and were you using a heated hose with that setting?
Were you using a "high" setting or a "low" setting?
Without knowing what setting you were using it's hard to offer ideas.

President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

Yes, try different humidity setting until things are better. Also, consider that you might have had an infection rather than a reaction to CPAP therapy.
