Amara View question

Post by Yayoe10 » Tue Mar 28, 2017 1:00 pm

Does anyone have any leakage from the nose area with the amara? I kept hearing a tiny leak during the night and ended up finding out it was from the nose area I have a size large maybe the size Is too big. Sadly can't switch it out now. Also the nose area makes me sneeze ALOT, i guess it irritates my nose. Can anyone relate ? And sucks that all mouth area of the mask are the same sizes I just feel like it's too small for my mouth now that I've used it. And no they didn't let me fit any mask they said I have to just choose a size and take it with no exchange sadly I guess cause my insurance

Here's the deal about masks and insurance and DMEs.
Most of the major mask manufacturers have a 30 day return policy for their masks. Meaning that the DME can get credit for a mask that gets returned so that they don't lose money swapping out masks.
Insurance companies will only pay for the one mask within whatever time frame that they have for replacement allowance.

So the DME will bill insurance for the first mask they dispense and get paid for it.
BUT they do have the option available offered by the mask manufacturers to swap out that first mask for another mask and the DME has to do a bit of paperwork to get credit so that they aren't supplying 2 masks for the price of 1 insurance payment.
The will tell you that your insurance won't pay for another mask which is true...what they don't tell you is that they are too lazy to do the paperwork to get credit for a returned mask.

DMEs often make their own in house rules about mask returns or swapping...they can do that but they need to be honest and upfront about what they are doing instead of blaming just your insurance company.

My DME has their own in house rules...they are up front about it...I can get a mask and I have 60 days from when I got that mask to swap it out as many times as I want to try different masks because they use the available 30 day thing from the mask manufacturers to get credit for each new mask that might dispense during the 60 days. They are willing to do the extra paperwork involved.

You might want to check with your insurance company for another DME in your area what will work with your insurance and find a DME that has a more liberal mask swapping policy. They are out there...you just have to look and ask them up front what their mask swapping policy is.

Thanks for the detailed explanation !!! I'm going to call my insurance later on today and see what I can do. I expected the mouth piece of the amara view to be bigger with the Large but found out later they're all same size now I'm stuck with a bigger nose piece which doesn't feel right . Imma see what I can do

There is a sizing guide available for help in determining size.
Did you get one in the package?
If not you can print one off.
https://5faacd0c97cf0d23c6dc-064f3cd61b ... -guide.pdf

And yes..the frame itself is the same size so all the cushions will fit the frame. The sizing difference is in how deep the mask is.

So all you would need to try a different size cushion is another cushion. It's better than some of the other full face masks where the frame and cushion are tied together and you end up having to get a whole new mask just to change sizes.
Sad thing...the Amara View comes in a fit pack that could be supplied/sold to patients so they can try all sizes.
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/pr-ama ... -pack.html
If DMEs would just supply this package...takes all the guess work out of the sizing.

If DMEs would just use the sizing guides... too lazy, I guess.
