New Guy needs a good night's sleep!

Post by HitSnooze » Sat Mar 25, 2017 10:07 am

Hello all,

Just joined, this is my first post. I'm just gonna throw it out there... For the past 3 months I have been using a Luna Auto 3B CPAP system with H60 heated humidifier, with an Amara full(?) mask. When I peeked at this board some time ago I believe I saw this machine affectionately described as a 'brick'! That might explain why I'm not so happy with the results.
I've been a snorer all my life. about 20 years ago I trained my self to sleep on my side, and that sorta helped. But as I approach 60, that is not enough. Besides, my arms and shoulders have started to complain! So into the CPAP world I have ventured. My goal, my hope, is to get a setup that works for me. Right off the bat, I have no problem wearing a device at night, so that's good. My insurance scenario is not ideal, and getting appropriate services and guidance are a struggle. For example, I am not convinced the mask/machine is right for me - if I lie on my back, relax and 'pretend' to sleep, I can 'feel' my jaw/soft palate drop, and breathing 'lock's up', even with mask in place. Living alone, I have not had the opportunity to have anyone examine if/how it's working. The machine measures results and sends them to the company, who then sends them to the doctor. I realize that better machines have the ability to deliver patient reviewable data/software that allows one to measure progress and make adjustments. As of this moment, I have not been able to review my data, and have not sat with a doctor to review it. I do know this however - I don't feel well rested about 50% of the time...
I have an appointment monday with a sleep study clinic / doctor and I hope they will at a minimum look over the data from past three months and make some assessment. Alas, we are talking about a low-grade healthcare scenario. I hope to go in there prepared with some research to help the process along...
I do realize I am really at the outset of this journay, and I am in no rush, and don't expect someone to instantly deliver me a solution, but any guidance and advice would be appreciated!
Thanks so much, David (AKA HitSnooze)

It's not a total brick. There is some data available by using the code system off the machine and going to the website and inputting the codes.

https://www.cpap.com/productpage/3b-lun ... ifier.html
Detailed Therapy Data with QR Code

The Luna Auto CPAP offers easy access to therapy data both on-screen and through the iCode app. The machine will show information such as compliance hours, average pressure, AHI, snore index, and leak rate. Data can be viewed using iCode by retrieving either the complete code and inputting it on the iCode website or by scanning the QR code off of the machine’s display into the iCode app on a smartphone.
There is a link at the cpap.com page above. See where I put iCode in red.

Now how to get the codes or whatever is available on the screen on the machine I don't know and I couldn't find the manual explaining how.

I had the previous model, resmart auto, it did the job and the auto allows you to titrate it. What numbers are you seeing? double check you have the mode set as auto?
youtube has some stuff on it too

Wow, thanks for the info! I've learned more in the past 24 hours than I have in the past 3 months. Thanks for the responses - this has really jump-started the process of getting to a fuller understanding of how these machines work, and how best to make adjustments to zero in on the best approach for my individual needs.

I have changed machine to a Resmed Airsense 10 and aan Amara View minimal contact mask. Both are working very well for me!

There's a lot you can learn about your machine and how to read results at http://www.apneaboard.com/wiki/index.ph ... mpowerment
