Is an increased respiratory rate for hours bad?

Post by appo » Thu Mar 23, 2017 6:55 am

I have some symptoms of aerophagia I'm trying to reduce.

Here is an example sleepyhead graph: https://www.dropbox.com/s/m0wyz8u6ncw7b ... 8.png?dl=0

It is similar to the past graphs - at some point in the night, when I'm in Stage 3 sleep (that's what I understand the second spike in AHI to be starting around 5AM), the mask pressure will increase because apneas are more common in deep sleep.

Concomitantly with the increase in mask pressure, my respiratory rate goes through the roof. Is this normal? Is increased respiratory rate (50+ breaths per min) linked to aerophagia?

It feels like I must be freaking out in my sleep because when I meditate by breaths per min goes to 6 or so.

Thanks so much!

I'm not sure what User Flag 1 and User Flag 2 are. I see no "periodic breathing" or "Cheyne-Stokes breathing." You'll need to speak to your doctor.

It is not normal for the respiratory rate to be this high...especially while sleeping. I would be concerned with a rate >20. See your doctor.

Thank you! I talked to my doctor and they said that it might be a defect in the machine (Resmed airsense) which is known to report respiratory rates that are wac if you don't use their software (i.e. SleepyHead, where the above photo came from).

I may need to get this bad boy checked out by Resmed then!!

Or ask for a loaner machine for a week or 2 for comparison.
