paper tape leakage with Resmed Airsense 10, heated tube
paper tape leakage with Resmed Airsense 10, heated tube
As a habitual mouth breather, i learnt to tape my mouth and graduated from a full face mask to Resmed p10 , nasal pillows , with great success, all thanks to folks on the message board. Now I have a new resmed air sense 10 for her , with heated tubing.Though my ahi is very low .8,I am leaking terribly each night, and have determined that the humidity is causing the tape to adhere less and that is what is causing the problem. Last night , i replaced the heated hose with a regular hose, but still leaked 50% over redline(according to Sleepyhead.
I need help.

Re: paper tape leakage with Resmed Airsense 10, heated tube
The Heated Hose will prevent condensation build-up in the Hose so using the standard was likely counter Productive unless you also lowered the Humidity setting.
you could try turning the Humidity off and seeing if the tape adheres and holds thru-out the night.
If your still leaking thru your mouth and the tape can't keep your mouth closed you need to use a full face Mask.
If turning Humidity off works then you can slowly add humidity until you have a problem and then back it down to where it worked.

I would think that is more of an issue with facial oils on the skin. Try rubbing the area with rubbing alcohol and let dry before applying tape. I've done that before using nasal strips.

Re: paper tape leakage with Resmed Airsense 10, heated tube
Are you using a Respironics machine or a ResMed machine?
You mention ResMed but your profile shows Respironics.
If you are using a Respironics machine and only looking at the time over red line % it may look worse than it really is because SleepyHead's default red line is for the ResMed 24 L/min red line and Respironics doesn't use the same red line.
Respironics never tells us an exact "red line" for large leak territory to begin.
Are you seeing many prolonged large leak flags over on the Events graph?
To get a more accurate red line statistic you need to use a number that is more in line with where Respironics red line might be if they gave us one. Maybe around 60 L/min depending on mask and pressure.
You can change the red line number from 24 to 60 or whatever...Preferences/CPAP tab
Or just turn it off by removing the check mark from show the red line statistic and simply follow the Events graph for leak status.
You may not have as big of a problem as you originally thought in terms of leak.

Re: paper tape leakage with Resmed Airsense 10, heated tube
Hi Pugsy,
i used to sleep with a Respirontics machine and did not experience ANY leaks. Then I was given a new Resmed air sense 10 for her. I also used a resmed heated tube and that is when the leaking began.
I took a nap using a respironics machine, regular tube and ZERO leaking and no condensation on my paper tap . with the resmed machine, my tape is very damp.
I really like the Resmed air sense machine, because it is smaller (and easier to transport) and seems more advanced technologically.
Last night I tried to use the Resmed machine with a non heated tube and leaked terribly. I tried to adjust the Resmed settings ( I have the clinician's manual, thanks to Pugsy), but probably did not get the correct settings

When you have time please update your profile to reflect the ResMed machine to avoid potential confusion.
Right now it is showing the PR S1 humidifier which only works with the PR S1 blower.

I believe the first post was quite clear about this...Pugsy wrote:Are you using a Respironics machine or a ResMed machine?

i used the respironics machine last night and had ZERO leaks. so now, how do i get my Resmed Airsense 10 , to stop using humidity that is causing the paper tape to loosen?
Re: paper tape leakage with Resmed Airsense 10, heated tube
first, what makes you think you had zero leaks?Slats wrote:i used the respironics machine last night and had ZERO leaks. so now, how do i get my Resmed Airsense 10 , to stop using humidity that is causing the paper tape to loosen?
as to getting the air 10 to stop making humidity... don't put any water in it.

you might want to re-evaluate your interpretation if you think a philips machine is showing zero leaks.Slats wrote:sleepy head .
