Don't turn the heat on to the humidifier without water being in the water chamber.
Otherwise you will get hot plastic smell to go with the other aroma.

I don't know if warm moist air going through the hose will make any difference or not. Though it's worth trying and won't hurt.
The hose material has most likely absorbed the odors and for people who are sensitive to those things it's real hard to get rid of it to their satisfaction.

Does your machine have the option of a regular hose? you could use the hose from your old machine.

I'll try using the hose tonight, but will probably end up getting a new one. Want to get started on treatment. I guess I'm still coming out way ahead due to the low price. After all, the extra effort and annoyance has been minimal.
Why not try running your machine at an open window to let cool fresh air run through the machine and hose for a few hours.

The hose from your old machine will work.
you just need to change the hose setting from slimline to standard in the setup menu.

ASSuming it's a standard size hose.
