Your friend is wrong. The machine won't/can't go below 4 cm for any reason.
Ramp won't start below 4 cm...pressure settings cannot be set below 4 cm.

A setting if 4 is the minimum to expel carbon dioxide that you exhale through the exhaust vents. If you can't tolerate 4, you can't tolerate CPAP!

And you're confusing the ramp settings with pressure settings (which are the ones - the min. one - that won't go below 4). The ramp is a matter of time (how long you set it to take to reach your prescribed (or set) min. pressure.

If you think the flow is too strong at 4...what is the prescribed pressure to use all night?

Cpap air pressure is commonly measured in centimeters of water pressure.
Is it possible someone has converted to INCHES of water pressure?
This may be the case in some countries--where are you?

Unless Chunky's right, something's wrong (or badly misunderstood). There's no prescriptions written for '2'. No such thing! Most are in the high single digits or double ones, but as I said you are likely confusing ramp settings (there 2 might be possible in relation to time or levels - 1 thru 3 or 5 - but not pressure settings. Never!

This cannot be correct! The minimum is pressure setting is 4; including the starting pressure! This is because a lower setting will not expel the carbon dioxide that you exhale through the exhaust ports. A few of the old CPAPs go down to 3, but they were having CO2 issues at 3.

According to my copy of the Dreamstation Provider guide (covers all models), "0.5" only refers to the size of the increments that can be used to adjust the Ramp starting pressure. So, Ramp starting pressure could be set to 4.0 cm H2O or 4.5 or 5.0 or 5.5, etc. "[Ramp Start] is only available if Ramp Time has been set to [greater than] 0 and therapy pressure [is set to greater than] 4 cm H20."

How long have you been using a CPAP device? If you are new to it, could it be that you are experiencing anxiety in getting used to having a constant stream of air available? Have you tried wearing the mask (with blower turned on) during the day while reading or watching tv to acclimatize yourself to breathing with the equipment in place? Some people find this helpful so that they are more comfortable at night to drop more easily into sleep.

It is unlikely. Can you tell us what your prescription actually says? I suspect that the "2" refers to EPR which is pressure relief. It could also be the humidifier setting, but usually the doctor leaves that up to the patient and does not suggest a setting.
