New to an AirSense 10 AutoSet

Post by FordGuy48 » Sun Mar 12, 2017 3:51 pm

I've been using the AirSense 10 AutoSet for just over a week now, so I'm new to seeing what my AHI is at home. I was formerly using the ResMed S9, not auto set. I've noticed my AHI seems to vary from 4.5 to around 10 or 11, so I think I need an adjustment again. I could be wrong, since the old machine didn't give me the AHI (or at least if it did, I didn't know how to access it). Last night I woke around 2, and it was reading 1.2, but when I woke in the morning, it was 8.6, did I do something to increase it? Is it normal to fluctuate like this? My medical office has increased the pressure once, perhaps I need it again. One thing I find strange is even if you only remove the mask once during sleep time, it still shows 2, since moving the mask at the end counts as one. I do like this machine far better overall!

You may or may not be needing a pressure adjustment.
Use the available software to see what the machine is doing and the event category breakdown.
Not all of that AHI might be fixable with more pressure. You need to make sure what you are wanting to fix with more pressure is fixable with more pressure.

It's not unusual for the AHI on the LCD screen to vary a lot because it is just showing the last session and AHI can vary a lot during the night.
Use the software. It offers a clearer picture of what is going on.

definitely get sleepyhead so you can look at your data more closely.

i've got that same machine. it is super easy to grab data on it. just put in a standard SD card and the machine records tons of data each night. you can then import that data into the sleepyhead software to be able to view your data throughout the evening.

go to the link pugsy posted and you can get the sleepyhead software, then you can post screenshots of your data here and people can help you sort this out.

Oh that sounds interesting, I might try once I get going on this machine. They've adjusted the pressure twice, first it was 14-17, then 16.8-18, with the adjustment my AHI was 15, up about 6. Odd, on my old machine, set at constant 15, my AHI was 5. She reset this new machine to 15 constant today, so I'll see after my next sleep. Is it odd that the auto adjust would allow me more events? I'm also wondering, I tried sleeping on my back last night, does sleep position matter that much? I usually sleep on my left side.

Most people require more pressure when sleeping on their back. I sleep on my back, in an adjustable bed, with my head and feet raised due to other medical conditions. I have found I do very well with a constant pressure of 20 cm water and 3 cm pressure support. It has been several years since I have been able to sleep on my side. If I do, I can only sleep about an hour until I have to get up and move.

Oh, this might be helpful, I'll try when I go back to my usual side sleep tonight!

Have you found the AirSense 10 to be much louder than the S9? Did you find the water supply container to be much smaller than the S9? I did on both counts. I returned my AirSense 10.

your imagination is running wild, the water chambers hold exactly the same amount.

as to the noise? not from what I've heard.

i've an airsense 10 autoset machine.

it's super quiet.

i notice the ceiling fan in an adjacent room and the sound of air coming out of my exhalation port on my mask before i notice the noise of the airsense machine.

as far as the amount of water the 10 holds compared to the 9, i've not used a 9....but according to specs, they hold the exact same amount, 380ml.
