Need help from Simplus FFM users out there

Post by RoboLobo » Sun Mar 05, 2017 10:52 am

Hi everyone! I am going back and forth between the Simplus FFM and the Airfit F20. I really like the Simplus when it works, but here is my problem and I was wocnering if any other users are experiencing it. Usually, after using it for about a month or so, when I put it on and turn on my machine I will hear a high-pitched squeal coming *somewhere* from the mask. It is definitely an air leak, but it's not the "woosh" sound you get from a big air leak (like when it slips out of position on your face). No, it's a tiny leak causing a tiny squeal that I have not been able to trace the location of. I am beginning to think its a design flaw in the connection between the frame and the face cushion. To solve the problem I will basically tap on the mask in various locations until the squeal stops, but that doesn't always work. I am using a wonderful Padacheek liner so I am pretty certain the leak is not emanating from the edges of the cushion. Ideas anyone? I should make mention that while this squeal/leak usually starts after about 3-4 weeks of use, but it happened the other night for a moment with a brand new mask and cushion. My plan was to wait till the squeal started up on an ongoing basis and then swap in a new cushion to see if we are dealing with some sort of cushion failure, but other than that I don't have any idea what to do. Thanks!

The high pitched squeal is a small air leak. If you use a mask liner, it won't necessarily stop the leak, but it should stop the squeal. I had the same problem with my simplus before I started using mask liners. You can purchase liners, or try making your own. I made mine out of an old well-used tee shirt. Here is a link to where I found the pattern I used: http://montfordhouse.com/cpap/diy-cotton-mask-liner.pdf
My wife crocheted a small bag I would place the liners in after I wore them. We would throw the bag of masks in with the whites when we did laundry and then iron them dry. I made around 15 of them and they lasted several months, until I changed masks and went to the Amara View. We now do the same thing with the liners I made for this mask.

I'm using the same mask with the same liner, and I believe this is from stretched out headgear making thr lower part of thr mask too loose. When I get the "whine" it's coming from my jaw area. I tightened the lower straps a tiny bit and haven't gotten any more squealing.

I loved the F20 but my nose couldn't tolerate it no matter what. It sealed so easily and I liked those magnetic clasps.

My Simplus FFM "whistles" occasionally. I think we're probably experiencing the same thing. Mine seems to be coming from where the plastic hose piece fits into the mask itself. Readjusting that seems to make the whistles go away.
