New machine ResMed Aircurve 10 question

Post by den942 » Fri Feb 24, 2017 10:07 am

The doctor's order says bipap auto sv with auto backup rate. The supplies chose a ResMed Aircurve 10 to supply. That is all the info I got from the supplier except excuses as to why it hasn't been shipped. They say it isn't stocked because so few people use it. Is this a machine rarely used? Does it sound like what I need? They just said Aircurve 10 not Aircurve S10 or Aircurve 10V Auto.

There are several AirCurve 10 models as you have discovered.

The AirCurve 10 ASV is the only one that meets this criteria in the ResMed brand AirCurve model line.

It's not a commonly used machine when compared to the other models and it is very pricey so DMEs are not likely to just keep one on hand and wait until they need one before they order one. It is common enough that ResMed probably has some inventory so that you don't wait to have it manufactured.

How long of a wait are you talking about?

AirCurve 10 VAuto
AirCurve 10 S
AirCurve 10 ST
AirCurve 10 ST
AirCurve 10 ASV

There is a 10 S but no S10.

as Okydoky explained... no such animal.

look carefully, 1) you'll not find "s10" anywhere, (except at chevy).

and 2) 'bipap' is a registered trademark of respironics.

so, there's no such thing as a " ResMed AirCurve S10 BiPAP!"

that's like leaning on the Canon copier and calling it a xerox. or calling 7up a 'coke'.

Well it came today and it is a ResMed Aircurve 10 ST. If I open the box I can't return it. Is this going to do what needs to be done?

The ST model has a fixed timed back up rate but not an auto back up rate.
It's not the same machine.
It doesn't/can't do any auto anything. It doesn't do what the original RX stated. It can't.

I own both...the ResMed auto ASV and the ST and they don't have the same setting parameters.

It's not capable of doing what the doctor ordered.
You probably should be having a chat with your doctor before you ever open it.

Do you have a copy of your doctor's written order? If it says as you previously stated, bipap auto sv with auto backup rate, that is not the machine you have.
The Aircurve 10 ST is a fixed pressure bilevel with a backup breathing rate. It is not an auto bilevel with backup breathing which you stated was ordered.
With that being said the answer to your problem is the doctor orders. If auto was ordered that is what I would want but you would have to get a copy of your prescription.

I called my doctor and I'm waiting on a return call to see what is up with this mess...

I haven't heard from the doctor but questioned the supplier. My paper from the doctor says, " Auto bipap with back up rate of 12. Pressure at 20/16."
I questioned whether what I got, the Aircurve 10 ST, had the Auto feature. They said, no and said if an Auto function machine was ordered there
would be four pressure settings listed and not just the two. So according to them, I got what was ordered.
Now I need to hear from the doctor to see what his comment is on this. What a screwed up mess.

Might have been nice of them to call the doctor and clarify the RX since there was some ambiguity there.

I call the supplier then call the doctor then call the supplier, etc., etc.. I should be on someone's payroll... This has been ongoing
since last November. I ended up having a new sleep study done just trying to replace a ten year old machine.

Your doctor may be okay with this machine depending on your history and what was found on your sleep study and how he wants to deal with things.
Or he maybe was wanting auto for an option in case fixed didn't work out so well.

It's best that he be made aware of what this machine will and won't do and then he can decide if it works for him or not.
