I have been using same machine that I got in 2004, remstar still works fine should I change or keep using old one?

The old one should do what it always did. It's not state of the art, but if you're happy, you should be able to live with it. However, I can't say that it won't fail one day, and a new one will give you sleep stats (at least the better ones will). My machine from 2009 broke down last year, so I had to take my 2005 machine out of mothballs (not literally). I finally got a new one and I like the stats, I like the heated hose, and I like that it's automatic (it will raise the pressure briefly when it senses that I need a higher pressure). The doctor was bugging me to replace the old one anyhow, as he wanted stats such as the ones available on the new one.

It works fine until it stops working. Then you've got nothing. Do you want a machine paid for by insurance or out of pocket? A lot of technology changed since 2004.

I would suggest getting a newer one and keep the "old" one for either a backup or keep using it as a primary till it croaks. Never hurts to have spares and "someday" it may fail.......and you don't want to be without one if that happens.
Depending on which model it is, the internal (time clock) battery may fail at some point and could cause problems, too.
All of my machines are from the 2005 - 2007 period, so similar "generation" to yours. I like them and they still do what they did back then and have data-capabilities.
Just remember that "Murphy's Laws" apply to this therapy, too. If something can go wrong, it will, and at the worst possible time.

Yes, I agree about keeping the old one on hand as a spare! I had to use my machine from 2005 when the replacement that I got in 2009 stopped working; until the new one came. I would have gone for over a week without treatment if I didn't have a spare on hand.

You should use (or at least run) the spare once in a while to make sure that it's in working order and to make sure the seals don't dry out.

I was using an old Remstar Auto pre M style and I thought it was doing fine.
But my model was so old it didn't flag centrals and I could not run Sleepyhead
with it. With my old Remstar my AHI would range from 2 to 6.7 with an average
of about 4. I started using my new Dreamstation Auto 2 weeks ago with the same
apap pressure settings I had been using with the REmstar and now my AHI is between
.98 and 2.8 . I don't know why my AHI is lower but it looks like geting a new
machine was a good move in my case.

That backup can give you leverage if the DME tries to pull a fast one on you.
If you can wait, you can even go somewhere else.
Let the sneaky dealer be nervous.
We love to see them sweat.

Now if someone needs a gently used machine as a backup I have 2 I would
part with for a reasonable price. A Remstar M with just a little over 20,000hrs
the only thing is the on of button sticks some. And them a Sunshine Horizon
with 39,174 hrs, none of those pesky lights and setup screens you change the
pressure with a manometer and a small screwdriver they don't make them like
this any more !
