trouble with masks

Post by Wired335 » Tue Feb 21, 2017 9:22 am

I have tried 3 masks now...

Airfit N20

Airfit F20

Amaraview

I'm not having much luck....

The N20 I ditched because I get stuffed up pretty easily at night in the winter and I go full on mouth breathing after a while. causes a bit of a problem with a nasal mask.

The F20 I'm getting a leak on the bridge of the nose no matter how I adjust it. I fought with it for 2 weeks.... I'm usually waking up with an air leak shooting into my left eye. Very fun. That or I'm getting bad pressure marks on my face.

the Amara View I've only used 3 nights so far. First night was okay, but I was pretty sick that morning and took it off after about 4 hours because I was making regular runs to the washroom. The second night I wore it for 6.5 hours and had almost 2 hours of airleaks according to dream-mapper. Leaking from the left nostril area and blowing air up my eyelids. Last night, once again about 6.5 hours, but 2.5 hours worth of air leaks. I am exhausted and starting to feel defeated. The Amara View also tickles my nose.

I'm primarily a side sleeper due to a lower back injury, so I am unsure if it's due to my side sleeping position that causing these issues. They seem okay at first, but get worse throughout the night.

Is there a different mask I should try out? Or do I have no idea what I'm doing...

I haven't used a full face mask but had the air leaking into the eyes with the N10. I was able to control that with a liner. http://padacheek.com/index.html
You might try this with your F20.
Have you used fitting guides to see if you have the right size and looked at Youtube for fitting videos?

Be sure you have the correct size mask...too much air loss at the nose/eyes may mean the mask is too large. Check out these videos........

I tried the F20, but it was too wide at the top of the nose.
The F10 doesn't have as soft of a seal, but it fits better on the nose.
I've got a Pad A Cheek cover ordered for it.

I also tried the Amara View, but it rubbed on my nose something fierce.
I think I may have had it adjusted wrong, or too big of a seal.
I'm going to try that one again - may have to get a cover for it.

Also, adjust the straps to fit after you lay down.
Your face changes shape from sitting to laying.
I learned that from an article on Taming the Quattro.
Also how to adjust the straps. It changed everything!!

Got a lower back injury myself and I know that makes me move around at night as well. And I like to sleep on my side. Doc wants me to try a full mask over the nasal pillows I use now so I will watching to see what you get to work. I know everybody is different. Part of my problem is I don't have a machine with data so I can see what is going on. Been thinking I need something better to help with the lower back at night, I can't take as much pain meds or it does screw with me at night. Been wondering if a pain pump would help. If it could give me a low dose a few times during the night it might help keep the pain down. Good luck figuring out what will help with masks

HI Wired,

Obviously, your mileage will vary but some people have said that using a nasal pillow mask clears their nasal stuffiness. Might it be worth trying the P10's which seem to be the most popular one in the nasal pillow class?

Best of luck.

I've been using the swift FX since I started cpap over 5 years ago. I do some times have to use a nasal spray before going to bed to clear my nose up so I can breath thru it but have always been able to. Now I have had a couple of days in the last week or so that I've woke up early because my nose was too stuffed up

My wife uses a FFM and likes the Quattro Air. She just tried the F20 and it is going back.
