Questions on new Resmed Airsense 10

Post by bmanley » Wed Feb 15, 2017 6:19 pm

Hopefully getting one soon and a couple of questions. Since they have some built in reporting with wireless do they come with the SD card? Just wanting to make sure I get what I should with it. Also was reading somewhere about reading the date code on them and it looked like they were made in two countries. Has anybody noticed and problems with one over the other? Just makes you wonder when you hear stories about other things that are made in different places, some are okay and some you stay away from.
Only thing I'm not going to like is not having the heated tubing. Guessing they will only supply the regular hose so I will have to buy one myself or wait until they will pay for one. I can't stand cool air in my nose so it is very nice to have.
Sure I might have other questions, just want to make sure the new DME company is not screwing me. The first company made me feel like they were giving me the best equipment and supplies and I got the S9 escape lol

They are shipped from the factory with a SD card inside the machine.
Most DMEs leave the card in place but apparently a few remove the SD card.
You can also request a heated hose instead of a regular non heated hose because the factory ships packages with a heated hose and without a heated hose and the DME can just swap hoses...if they will just do it.
Unfortunately the S9 heated hose won't work on the new AirSense 10 machines.

Don't worry about where they are made...doesn't seem to make any difference in terms of quality. You don't have a choice in that anyway.

Do not take the Airsense 10 CPAP unit, it is not full data capable but like the one you now have, just newer. The Airsense 10 Auotset is the auto model but also has a cpap mode and is full data. If you are medicare they do pay for a heated hose so ask the doctor to write for one if the DME gives you problems.

I just turned in my Airsense 10 CPAP from rental when the insurance stopped paying in January. I was going to just keep it as a spare, but I didn't even want to do that after using a Airsense 10 AUTO for a week. Even without using Sleepyhead, I was able to reduce my AHI to half of what it was for 6 months with the extra information of the AUTO.
Seeing and believing are often both wrong. FOW

Should have put in there that it is the autoset model, sorry.
I will see if they will do the heated hose but you never know with these places. Like I said before the first machine I got that company acted like they were treating me like a king and I was getting the best equipment.

My DME gave me my AirSense without a memory card. I asked her about it and she said Resmed doesn't include them anymore. I asked why and she said she didn't know. I asked about it here (afterwards), and most said they did get a card with their machines. I deal with Crapria (Apria), I don't trust them. If it's a real issue for you, I'd call Resmed and ask them. I'd be interested in what they say. I ended up using the card I had in my S9 that crapped out. The AirSense also comes with a plate that is used when you don't want to use the humidifier. Be sure you get that. I didn't.

Not only did Lincare include the SD card with my machine, but when it corrupted a few months ago they gave me another for no charge. That's really crappy for you Sheriff that Crapria didn't give you even one. I will say that the SD card wasn't IN the machine but in a special SD card (looks kindof like a mailer).

Lincare does not even carry that extra plate that you put on the Airsense when you don't want to use the humidifier. Just watch for free shipping at one of the online uppliers and order it then - it's about $22. I debated on that - I decided that I will always use humidity so the extra plate isn't necessary, but you have to try your machine with and without humidity for yourself to see if that works for you.

the airsense blanking plate is an extra cost option, it does not come standard.

Was thinking I asked this in a post but does anybody know if you can use the tube without water and not damage anything? Can the heat be turned off? Only once did I not use my humidifier on my machine because we were just on an overnight trip and I wanted to save space. Can say I didn't like the machine that night. My nose can not take dry cold air so that is why I love the heated tubing. So I'm not sure I'd ever not use it with water. On a couple of trips I've just used tap water so I didn't have to carry water with me and didn't have any problems

Yes...the heat to the water chamber plate can be turned off so the machine can be used without water with or without a heated hose.
In fact with the AirSense 10 and a heated hose you don't have to sacrifice warm air even if you don't use water.
I am pretty sure that you can turn the humidity off and still have access to the heated hose air temps if the setup is change so that the patient has access to each separately.
I can do it with my ResMed S9...can't be done with Respironics PR S1 though (don't know about the DreamStation) in case Respironics users are reading this.

I know what you mean about not liking the cold air...especially in the winter when I keep my house a lot cooler. I call it ice cube nose syndrome and I don't like it...wakes me up a lot and it causes pain in my nose.
Now if I kept my house as hot as my mother does her house...I would likely be putting an air conditioning unit in front of the air intake
Way too hot overall for any sleeping.

Well DME called today and got all the paperwork together. Had some questions and she didn't know what machine they were giving me so we had a talk. I will go in next week and see what they want to do. If not what I want I will be go to another supplier. Guess I'm getting a new mask with it so that will be a good thing

I got the AirSense 10 Elite - fixed pressure only, but fully data capable.
My wife got the same machine from the same DME - hers had a card and mine didn't.
DME explained that they are paying for a subscription to ResMed's cloud-based data server.
So they get their data from there and don't get the card with the machine.
But I asked and she did give me one.
Otherwise you can use your own SD card.
The card comes in handy to upload the SleepyHead, which I'm learning to like very much!!

I will want the SD card so I can keep track of the data. See they have some kind of remote monitor and still not sure how that works. One place said it works with my wifi and another place told me I didn't need wifi for it to work. Guess if they don't give me a card I will have to look into what I need to make it work right.

whoever told you that it used wifi doesn't know what they're talking about... (which often happens with DMEs.)

it's a cellular modem, has nothing at all to do with wifi.

if they don't give you a card, then just buy a sd card and stick it in.

Never looked at these new machines in person. Does the resmed say autoset on it? I know I should be able to tell if they show me how they are setting up the pressures but I want to make sure they don't try and get me to take a basic machine home. The doc should have ordered the autoset so I don't think they will try.
