Sinus Surgery

Post by lwieland11 » Mon Feb 13, 2017 8:07 am

Anyone find sinus surgery helpful in improving cpap/bipap therapy? I have a deviated septum and have often wondered if this surgery would clear the way for more air to get through.

I had the septoplasty 4 years ago...it made absolutely no difference in my CPAP therapy.

Unfortunately, it didn't help me but many people who have had the surgery said it did. You might want to do a search of the archives using septoplasty as the search term. There is one really long thread that hopefully you can find.

Breathing better through your nose doesn't equate to more air getting through your throat.

I had a septoplasty done at the same time I had UPPP surgery several years ago. Prior to the surgery, I could never breath through both sides of my nose at the same time. I was amazed at how much better I breathed after the surgery. I no longer had a constant stuffy nose, and have had sinus infections much less frequently than I did prior to the surgery. To me, that alone made the septoplasty worth while.

Gramps will tell you the same thing. Very worthwhile surgery for him.

The septum is not part of the sinuses. But, correction of a deviated septum may allow the sinuses to drain better.

I did the U3P thing with turbinate reduction and fixed my deviated septum. I had to relearn how to breath. The level of effort required to breath prior to the surgery left me whistling though my nose afterward. I'm still a hose head.
