AirFit F10 - Redness on nose

Post by dbreweur » Wed Feb 01, 2017 11:59 pm

Last night was my first night with the AirFit F10 FFM. It went really well (Slept 8-ish hours, with an AHI of 3.1), but when I woke up in the morning, there was a very noticeable red mark/indent mark across the top of my nose. I didn't think I had the mask on that tightly - and I really can't loosen it any or I begin to have air leaking right into my eyes.

I know there are several other posts that probably say the same thing (and I plan on reading quite a few of them) - but does anyone have any updated tips/tricks for how to avoid that red mark?

Have you watched any of the youtube videos about fitting and adjusting that mask? https://www.google.com/search?q=airfit+ ... 8&oe=utf-8

Try the liner as suggested. When I wear the F10, I have the same problem. I put a small bandaid on my nose and I place a strip of medical tape on top of the bandaid until the area toughens up.

Did you use the fitting guide to make sure the cushion is the right size for you?

All good replies. If those don't work out, you might also look at a mask support strap, like the one available from padacheek . My F20 has had a tendency to ride up a bit, and this makes the top of nose rubbing worse. The mask support strap goes under your chin and up and over the bottom headgear staps, keeping the mask down where it should be, and just generally more stationary/stable. It also helps keep your mouth closed a bit.

In the past, I have used band aid strips on my nose to cover the red spot at night. I have also used moleskin on my nose at night. The RT I worked with when I first got my machine said that's what her husband used moleskin on his nose every night.

I find that brushing some Bare Minerals loose powder on it in the mornings while doing my makeup works wonders.

If all else fails, try the boomerang nose pad.

Watch that red spot. If it doesn't clear up, you may end up with an open sore on your nose. That happened to me when I first started treatment before I learned about using moleskin or a band aid strip on my nose.

Try soaking in 50% vinegar solution for two hours before next use. If the odor is objectionable, just wash thoroughly afterwards.

Repeat this every time you change the piece that touches your face.

Having the same red nose problem with my new AirFit F20, do mask liners compromise the mask seal at all? What are they made of? I'm thinking that anything placed between silicon and skin could cause a leak path?

I have used mask liner in the past without compromising my therapy. With a properly fitted mask using a liner might lead to a small amount of leakage, but it should not be enough to affect your therapy. The comfort of the liners, especially during the summer, was worth the extra leakage. During the summer the liners help me control the leakage since they absorb the sweat which can cause masks to leak.

Right, I bought some silicon plasters (band aid?) today, thinking that would be better for sealing between mask and nose. I'll let you know tomorrow how it works out.
