Stomach flu

Post by bigdave36 » Sun Jan 22, 2017 9:09 pm

I seem to have caught the stomach flu today. Sofar there is no vomiting but I have been really close. Lotta stomach pain, no appetite, low grade fever.
My question...is it a good idea to do therapy tonight. My concerns is that the air pressure will make it worse and that a sudden urge to vomit...with a FFM on it would be really bad.
SORRY FOR THE GROSS POST. i TRYED LOOKING IT UP BUT DIDNT SEE ANYTHING ON THE FIRST COUPLA PAGES. Also sorry for the caps.
Thanks ...Dave

If you are unsure how you will react to CPAP therapy tonight, sleep in a recliner in a semi-upright position.

Personally, I always use my XPAP, I had a night explosion this week, prepare for it better than I did, mine came on fast in the middle of the night. Good luck, I have a question, just for me, did you have the flu shot and if so when, I didn't take it but 4 in my family did they all got sick in two weeks. I haven't had it in over 10 years. Jim

so, try thinking about this... you need as much rest, and immune system ability as you can get right now...

and you're thinking about taking a big hit to both?

madness.

Jim, stomach flu and the flu you take the shot for are not related. The stomach flu is a bug in your digestive track and the other is a (I think virus) in your respiratory track; this is the one that keeps you down for a week or more and can kill you. No shot that I know of for stomach flu.

I cannot think of the name of it right now but the doctor gave both my son and me a pill that you let dissolve under your tongue and knocked the vomiting out cold, did not happen one more time

Unless you have chronic problems with aerophagia, I shouldn't think cpap therapy would make a difference. My bro had the stomach flu recently and had a few crackers before hooking up his bipap. He had to sit up again about 3 a.m. and have a couple more crackers but after that, all was ok until daytime. Aeorphagia is a different issue and I only had it one time, so I'd be asking for help rather than helping anybody on it.

Stomach flu
There is no such thing as "stomach flu".

in·flu·en·za
ˌinfləˈwenzə/
noun
noun: influenza

a highly contagious viral infection of the respiratory passages causing fever, severe aching, and catarrh, and often occurring in epidemics.

Yes, it's official name is Viral Gastroenteritis. And yeah, many patients (and even docs) refer to it as the 'stomach flu'. Clearly different from influenza which is a respiratory infection.

Goof, if you are past it, pizza shouldn't present any problems, IMHO. I usually just eat a couple of crackers. Even the thought of toast nauseates me until I'm past the problem.

When I had an inner ear infection and was dizzy and nauseous, I was given Meclizine, an OTC antihistamine/anti emetic that works for nausea. I think the brand name was Anti-Vert. It worked great for that, but I don't know that ANYTHING will stop nausea from the stomach flu--you just have to hang on until it passes. I got that once and I never felt so sick in my entire life. YUCK! The one saving grace is it is usually done in 24 hours. Hope you're feeling better by now.

Meclizine sounds like an illicit drug of similar name. Also a type of lettuce (Mesclun). I always get them mixed up. So be careful what you ask for.
