How is this possible?

You buy a less than 2 yr old used Resmed from Craigslist. Turn it into Resmed under the warranty that they will replace a machine that has a problem. Resumd replaces it with a new one. Turn around and sell the new one, (zero hours) on Craigslist.
That's the story I was told from a CL seller.
How is that possible when you don't even have the original sales receipt?

I don't believe it.....On Resmed's site they specifically say that they will not deal with patients...only Suppliers (DME).

I don't think sales receipts are required like they are for other items.
ResMed goes by manufacture date and while we can tell exactly what that date is they can with the serial number.
Plus I think the warranty goes with the machine and not necessarily the original buyer (no matter how they got it).

At least that is the way it was described to me by some folks at acbio.com who handle Respironics and ResMed machines and can do warranty exchanges if the machine falls within the warranty period.
Pretty much no questions are asked about how a person got the machine.

Now how someone on craigslist is getting these machines swapped out under warranty.....they have to be using someone who has some sort of contract with ResMed because ResMed won't deal with us directly. We have to use a DME or some place like acbio.com. Now maybe that person on craigslist works at or even owns a DME and then they have easy access to the ResMed warranty. You might not be getting the whole story from them.

I bet he has a DME helping him out. I bought a zero hr. autoset from him a few months ago. Now he has another one listed. I didn't know it was the same person till I responded to his ad.

Resmed warranty book says the warranty is only good for the original buyer. It does not transfer to the second owner.

Well obviously it can transfer. I don't think ResMed actually keeps a list of who gets what serial number. I think they leave all that to the DME.

Think about it...the DME sells a person a ResMed machine but maybe the person gives up and turns the machine back in after 2 months. The DME sells you the same machine and it craps out after 2 months.
You would get the warranty replacement. While they might take the official stance that the warranty only goes to the first owner....there are situations where that little statement is overlooked.

So for this to work, you need a DME who is willing to do the switch, and look the other way.

Yeah...pretty much that's how it works.
DME looks the other way and/or gets a little piece of the pie for looking the other way. I doubt they do it out of the goodness of their heart.

My own personal opinion is that the warranty should follow the machine anyway no matter who owns it or has owned it in the past.

Mystery solved. The Seller's BIL is a Resp. Therapist, works at a DME.

That was my suspicion. Bet he sells the dme's "free" samples out the back door, too.

He's got quite an operation going on.

I got a "guy" getting me another machine with low hours. Many with less than 300hrs for way below typical prices. He works for a DME. He says he picks up these machines all the time from estates and those with insurance that don't check and quit. He tells them when he delivers and sets up machines to call him if they want to get rid of the machine for cash. Might be a total lie. He is too terrible a businessman to be making up lies.

I got my first machine from a DME as a rental to own with insurance. It had more than a hundred hours on it. this guy just circumvents that process.

That's why my guy is doing, but he goes a step further. Turns the used machines into Resmed under the warranty. Says there is a problem with it, gets a brand new replacement machine under the warranty, then sells the new machine. $220 for a zero Hour Resmed s10 Autosest.

Bet his company doesn't know this. He is basically committing fraud against not only the company he is working for but also against Resmed. Be interesting if the company he is working for all of a sudden gets blocked by Resmed for service and parts.

I told my husband something didn't seem right.

I bought my first S9 from a man that said that the DME donated a certain number to charity and he got one and sold it to me. I always thought he was lying but who knows?
