where to get drug induced sleep endoscopy

Post by mangos21 » Sun Jan 15, 2017 4:02 pm

Hello all,

Has anyone here had a drug induced sleep endoscopy? I'm interested in getting one done after having some persistent difficulty with my CPAP in treating UARS...hoping they can pinpoint where things are going wrong in my airway and recommend some type of surgery.

I'm in Toronto , Canada... but willing to travel to fix this problem...

thanks all

In USA, you could start by calling accredited sleep centers - http://www.sleepeducation.org/find-a-facility

I would look for a pulmonologist who works in sleep. I would be looking just to understand, not for surgery. A Good Pulmonologist should be able to help w/o surgery and possibly w/o endo.

Hi mangos21,

When I looked into the Inspire Procedure, I was required to have a drug induced sleep endoscopy which was done by an ENT.

However, when I saw another ENT about the possibility of having surgery, he said that doing a nasendoscopy was sufficient to be able to see the obstructions. And his conclusions seemed to be consistent with what the drug induced endoscopy had shown.

If I were you, I would see if I could find a reputable Sleep Surgeon/ENT to talk to and ask about having nasendoscopy vs. the sleep endosopy. If you are looking to go to the US, I would check out Steven Park in New York City as I have heard good things about him. Of course, that isn't a guarantee of anything.

By the way, have you looked in the Inspire Procedure?

Unfortunately, I didn't qualify but it seems if you are looking into surgical options, this would be a good place to start since it seems the least invasive due to throat anatomy not being altered.

And even though it is alot more grueling, I would look into the MMA jaw advance procedure. A sleep doc on this board told me it had a much better success rate than procedures like UPPP and similar type operations. If you wanted to go this route, Kasey Li, is the person you want to see. http://www.sleepapneasurgery.com/

The ENT I saw about surgery who did the nasendoscopy recommended him along with some other names. If you find yourself serious about getting this procedure I could PM you the other names he provided.

Best of luck.

The specialist does not have to be a pulmonologist. You do want someone who is board certified in sleep medicine. There are some excellent sleep doctors who are neurologists with board certification in sleep medicine.
