nasal mask to full face mask

Post by khalpin59 » Fri Jan 06, 2017 3:39 pm

I have been using a nasal mask for about 8 years. For the last several months I continue to wake up with cotton mouth realizing that I am opening my mouth and have air leaks. I did some research on web and took some advice and go to a full face mask. Ever since I did this a few weeks ago, I continue to feel like I can't breathe and immediately wake up?? I tried this mask for about a week and continue to have the same feeling every time?? Any of this sound familiar??

Can you please provide some information, like what model of which machine you use (how old is it?), what mask you use (there are very, very many masks of all kinds), what your pressure settings are, what else might have changed in your life lately, weight gain, etc.... Do you use a humidifier?

Not much information there to go on.
Straight-pressure or APAP machine? What pressure(s) ?
Using Ramp?
Using heated humidifier? What setting(s) if you are? Have you tried turning it down if you're using a high setting?
Which masks?
Are you using software (if you have a data-capable machine)?

Are you doing (or have you tried) nasal cleansing before bedtime?

Some machines have settings for different mask types. If yours does did you change it?
Please register and register your equipment. wiki/index.php/Registering_Equipment_in_User_Profile
We also need your pressure settings. When we have more info we can get a better idea how to help you.

Comfort Gel blue nasal then to Comfort gel full face mask
do not use ramp.
Nothing really has changed for me except more stress at work...whats new....
I use nasal spray before going to bed every night. airway is clear
I do use the heat function on humidifier set to 2 which is half way

Which one?

AirSense 10 AutoSet
AirSense 10 AutoSet for Her
AirSense 10 Elite
AirSense 10 CPAP ( non-data-capable "brick" )

The first three are fully data-capable, the last one is not.

And which spray - Afrin can cause a backlash effect after a while and make things worse, Flonase is good though as are any nasal saline rinses.

I use Afrin at night. I use only once a day. I do use flonase in morning but Afrin is the only spray that works.
I did check my settings and it was set to nasal and not full face. So I just made those changes. My humidifier setting is 5...not 2

Once you get addicted to the Afrin, that's probably all that will work. I've never used it but have read many horror stories on the forum about folks who got addicted to it. If you want to do a forum search, put it in the search line above and start reading.

Too much warm humidity can cause more nasal congestion. You might try turning it down or off and see what happens.

Get Sleepyhead software (it's free) and get a better look and understanding of what data your machine reports.

This will show you how to organize your screen graphs, take a screen shot, and post it using Imgur. https://sleep.tnet.com/resources/sleepyhead/shorganize
There are 3 pages so at the bottom of each page click on the next link.

Please do organize the graphs before taking the screenshot. It is important to see some things more than others.

It is possible that your machine settings are causing your issues. Of course they may not be.

Please post some Sleepyhead Graphs as that will help us help you.

A number of members here are very good at interpreting the data and capable of suggesting changes that will help you sleep better.
