Breathless episodes

Post by TMH152 » Fri Dec 30, 2016 3:55 am

I was diagnosed with OSA at the end of October and put on CPAP. The thing I'm concerned about is that at certain points most nights I wake up suddenly breathless and with a strange feeling and have to quickly sit up to get my breath back. It's usually when I end up laid on my back but I feel weird on my left side too. I get achy being on my right side all night. Could this be signs of Central sleep apnea and if so is there anything different in treatment? Do I need to go back to my sleep doctor?

No information makes it hard to help you... what machine and mask do you use? What are your pressure settings? Sleep position has nothing to do with central apnea, but back sleeping does provoke more apneas in general so it's best to try and avoid it.

If you have a full data capable machine, you can download Sleepyhead and see what is happening at the time of the wake ups. Start by registering your equipment so it will show up each time you post. Here is a link to help so it will show up each time you post. wiki/index.php/Registering_Equipment_in_User_Profile
If your equipment doesn't show up after selecting it, just type it in to the comment section.

Once we know your machine, if it is data capable, we can tell you how to get the software for your computer. Also where to get your clinical manual that has a lot of information and tells you how to access the settings if you need to change them. What are the settings on your machine now? If you have questions we will help but we need to start with this information.
