Help with FF mask

Post by acctingman » Sun Dec 18, 2016 12:17 am

Long story short.

I'm wearing a nasal pillow mask and it works, however, I have pretty irritated nasal passages. I have a little claustrophobia issue and I've tried a couple of the FF masks (Amara View and one other) and I just couldn't get them to work. I tried a couple nights but struggled keeping them on and I just wasn't comfortable breathing with them.

However, now I think I might have to try a FF mask. The air blowing in is just drying out my nasal passages. I have my humidifier set to 2 and it helps, but not enough. Setting it to 3 I feel a little chest congestion at times.

To anyone who has gone from a nasal pillow mask to a FF mask.....which mask did you end up with and do you have any tricks to get over claustrophobia? (if you ever had it)

Thanks

When I started my cpap journey with a FF mask, the Quattro Air, it took me a while to get used to it, but a couple months in I was well acclimated. However, I did not like the strap around my forehead, merely put up with it. Later the Airfit F10 came out, and it doesn't have the forehead strap, but it uses the same cushion as the Quattro Air. I adapted right away. Some people have to try many masks before they find THE ONE, and you might have to go that route to find one. Each of us is different, with various sleeping habits, likes and dislikes, so it would be hard to tell you what might work, but if you haven't tried a nasal mask you might be more comfortable with one of those. Unlike pillows, nothing goes to your nostrils, and it's more like a FF but doesn't cover your mouth. Think of a big bubble around your nose that doesn't touch your nostrils. Good luck!

Now using AirFit F10 mask; Quattro Air is backup mask. RemZzzz mask liners with both.

The nose irritation is probably because your month is opening and air is excaping. The high volume of air in the nose and out the mouth dries the nasal passages.
I have the same problem, I use a dental mouth guard and a cervical collar to keep my mouth closed, and I also use a FF mask.. the Amara View, which takes some very delecate strap adjustment to get right, the tendency is to make it tighter, which is wrong. It is hard to get the correct balance between the top and bottom straps.

If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!
