oxygen concentrater forgot to use but I feel ok.2 issues
hi. I forgot to use oxygen last night. I feel better even without using it. I did not connect it to my machine.
during the day i do use the oxygen when i am taking a nap.
however i am still concerned about one other issue, is it ok just to turn off the oxygen in the day time when napping.
I notice when its nice and cold I can breath just fine and do not need the oxygen.
anyone experience similiar issues?
been on supplement oxygen only at night though. but was told to use oxygen in day if sleeping.

This is not a decision any of us can make for you. You should discuss it with your doctor.

Can you provide more information please.
How many liters per minute of oxygen are you subscribed?
Do you have any heart or lung disease?
Have you been told why you were prescribed supplemental oxygen?
Were you titrated with PAP therapy in a sleep lab?
Do you have oxygen desaturations at night when not using supplemental oxygen?

Why were you prescribed supplemental oxygen? If you don't know, talk to the medical practice that prescribed oxygen and ask them to look in your record to see why it was prescribed.moreorless wrote:oxygen concentrater
If you had an oximetry study and your levels were dropping only at night, it could be that this was entirely due to untreated sleep apnea. In that case, treatment with CPAP might have remedied the problem. It's best to talk to your medical practice.
Right. He has not provided enough information.raisedfist wrote:Can you provide more information please.

Is it too hard to turn on, mine just has one switch to push. O2 may or not be needed but you have it, you should use it..... Jim

If you are on oxygen only when sleeping, but you take naps,
it should be hooked in to your cpap ALL THE TIME.
You should not sleep without either--ever. Even for a little nap.
Can you put both on a cart that can go from bedroom to living room with you?
That sounds like it would be ideal.
Going without is not good for you.

Re: oxygen concentrater forgot to use but I feel ok.2 issues
Honestly, the only way to tell whether you need oxygen concentrator for naps, is to know more about why you have it in the first place and what affects you have when napping only an hour.
For instance, my heart rate drops just laying on my back, but my oxygen level doesn't really go down for 1.5 hours. So, if I set an alarm for 1 hour, I will do just fine (according to my recording oximeter data). I have no identifiable heart issue other than a slow heart rate. Is that the case with you? We don't know, which is why it's best to ask your provider. Note: I only have apnea during REM and near-REM and don't reach REM during naps. I still use my cpap during naps, but I'm not going to worry about it if it is inconvenient to use the cpap (spent a lot of days laying on hospital benches and sofas catching a few ZZs of late).

I stopped using my oxygen most of the time because I got worried about tripping my husband with my hose. This is a stupid thing to do for my health. I just do this to help take care of my husband. I know this isn't smart.

The hose has the dia of a pencil, is 50 foot long, can fit under most room doors, route it along the wall can't trip over a wall. I need to get my son to fix up a night time hose that just stays in place so I can unplug my day hose and plug up my night hose.

My sister-in-law uses the same hose all over the house,
so I kick off my shoes at the door so I will feel the hose through my socks.

I did use my hose all over the house and we had this joke that I couldn't hide because DH could just follow the hose to find me. After he started his treatments he has problems and he tripped and nearly fell a couple of times. I just can't take a chance on him getting hurt.

how many lpm are you prescribed? i would look into getting a portable oxygen concentrator like the inogen g4. they run on big rechargeable batteries and you can also use it, and charge it at the same time, when you're sitting down somewhere like the couch. they are not cheap but they probably have payment options depending on income/health insurance.Stormynights wrote:I did use my hose all over the house and we had this joke that I couldn't hide because DH could just follow the hose to find me. I have a portable that I use for travel. I can run my hose under a rug for day sitting around use. I need to get another hose run into my kitchen too. I will be putting my son to work. I do need to stop neglecting myself.
