hey guys! I'm new here...

Post by silentsinger1988 » Fri Dec 02, 2016 8:57 pm

Hi I got my dreamstation cpap yesterday, and after spending a few times on this website about sleepyhead, and I decided to give it a go... but after following all instructions after inserting the SD card and importing it, I ended up with nothing showing on my overview screen... how can I get sleepyhead to work with my dreamstation and how can I get it to show me all the information?

Your equipment profile is pointing to the DreamStation CPAP machine which doesn't collect the data that SleepyHead needs to show you anything.
Can you confirm which version of SleepyHead you are using AND the model number for your CPAP machine.
It may not be showing anything because it doesn't gather any useful data on that SD card except how many hours you have used it.
You may have a "brick"...see this thread if you do
https://maskarrayed.wordpress.com/
Scroll down till you see the part of the blog called "help I am stuck with a brick".

But let's make sure exactly which model machine you have first...so need that model number which is probably on the bottom of the blower and may have DS or REF in front of the numbers.

I downloaded the most recent Sleepyhead, and the model number is REF DSX200H11

I am sure Pugsy will chime in soon with more information ... BUT the 200 does not record any data .... it is a brick

any chance you can return it and insist on a 400 or 500 which do record data ... you will save a lot of time and money and have the ability to review your therapy with sleepyhead software.
If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

Well.. the thing about my DME is that they will tell me they will only carry a certain brand and models.. i was not impressed cuz following my friend's advice i told my doctor I wanted the S10 Auto CPAP... and when i went to the DME and they said NO cuz they only have these... which bugs me a lot.. but too be honest I like what the DreamStation features offers for me... saves me a lot of work... the Bluetooth technology to upload the info from the night before to my phone and to the computer... it shows SOME informations but not all the information like I hoped it would... it would only show usage hours, Min and Max pressure, Mode, if I use Ramp, TIme ramp was set for, and starting pressure... is that what they show in Sleepy Head?

yes the dr did wrote it down and the DME showed me the whole paper... and when I saw him come out with the Dreamstation I stopped him and I told him on the paper it said Resmed Airsense 10 auto... and then he was like no that what the dr used when you had your sleep study and I sure well know my dr used the ResMed s9, and because my mom was with me at that time i didn't want to cause problems and accepted the DreamStation... but I don't mind keeping it... I like it a lot..

But it records NO data ... get at least a 400 or better yet a 500 model of the Dreamstation
They will work and feel the same ... but will record data

Go back to the DR. and ask him to write a script for a Dreamstation Auto

That model is a "brick". The only data it collects is how many hours you use it...and if your doctor wrote the RX for the AirSense 10 AutoSet...they didn't give you a machine that would do what the doctor ordered.
The AutoSet has 2 modes of operation...fixed cpap mode and auto adjusting (apap) mode...and your brick only does fixed cpap mode.
They are supposed to at least give you the equivalent machine in the Respironics brand and the equivalent machine is the DreamStation Auto CPAP model model #DSX500S11
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/pr-dre ... chine.html

This is what they gave you
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/pr-dre ... chine.html

SleepyHead can't show you anything because there's nothing to show. SH needs those other data files to even show you the hours of use.

Do you have insurance? Insurance pays the same for this "brick" or the machine your doctor ordered but the DME makes more money on the brick so guess what they push.
I would take it back and raise a stink. They are supposed to dispense either what the doctor ordered or the equivalent in the other brand.

With the brick you have no idea as to how effective your therapy is or isn't...you can't even tell if you are leaking or not and if the leaks are bad then the therapy might not be effective but you have zero way to evaluate anything.

I know.. but i have to wait till i go to the dr when i see him next month, to demand that the DME follow procedure and I will demand for the dreamstation auto cpap.. I can't really do anything till then cuz my dr's office is so booked that he never have a opening till a month or so... I waited since august for this cpap... that how busy it gets.

I have to wait for about a month before I see my dr, so for now i'll keep this and when I see him I'm gonna make a complaint against my DME cuz my dr is the one that sent the RX to the DMEs, and I do have insurance, but like i said my dr's office is always so busy so I really have to wait till I see him again;.

Depending on how assertive you are, you could go back to the DME and ask them to exchange the machine. Explain that you may return it and go to another DME if they are not receptive to the exchange. (You can call your insurance and ask what other DMEs are in network). Have you tried calling your doctor?

If you wait for your doctor to do something you are out of luck. Your doctor isn't going to deal with the DME. That's YOUR job.

Your doctor ordered a Cadillac for you and the DME screwed you by giving you a Volkswagen for the same price. If you are ok with getting a cheap dataless brick and being stuck with it for the next five years, sleep well. But if you went through the trouble to download sleepyhead you might be interested in data. Return the machine and insist on what your doctor ordered or find a DME who won't cheat you.

Silentsinger, a couple of things to consider: First, the longer one waits to return the machine the more difficult it becomes. Generally within the first 30 days gives you the best chance of swapping the machine out.

Second, if you keep the machine you have now then there's almost nothing of value that can happen when you see your doctor for your one month follow-up appointment. He or she will have no way to evaluate the effectiveness of your therapy because the brick machine records no treatment data. About all the doctor can do is tell you yep, you've been using the machine -- which of course you will already know.

I would encourage you to call your insurance company and find out which DMEs are in their network. You have the right to use any of them. Then bring a copy of your prescription (if you don't have it yet call the doc's office and get it -- this shouldn't require an appointment) to the current DME, hand the machine back to them and if they won't honor the prescription as written by your doc, go to one of the other DMEs.

We all know what a hassle this stuff is, but taking care of it sooner rather than later could make a world of difference to the quality of your therapy over time.
