Want to buy a GREAT APAP set ups for below $500 ..
Because a few months ago my new sleep tests concluded that I need to have a machine set between 10 and 16.
But, of course, my friggin Medicaid lapsed and when i tried to reup it they're playing friggin games for weeks and I just found out today that I need to start the entire application process over and who the heck knows how long that will take to turn around
So meanwhile my sleep quality is terrible and I'm going to have to, if possible, pay out of pocket.
Right now I have a remstar. I think it's listed in my profile. I have never had any success ever with this machine but it could be that my settings were wrong (10). Or that I just needed an APAP.
Any ideas on a good machine, humidifier and hose set up? Technically I have a non heated hose and I have the heated hose for the remstar and I have masks. So that's that.
Like i said in the title, in trying to stay below $500 since I'm DEFINITELY on a budget. I'm seeing a couple options on Google for around $400.
Wondering if those are even worth it.
Thanks in advance.

I use the Remstar System One 60 Series Auto and it works well for me. You can get it from cpap.com for $429 including humidifier and heated hose. The newer Dreamstation machines haven't changed much compared to the System One.

I personally think the ResMed S9 is the greatest deal out there...(If you don't mind pink).

You might also go to secondwindcpap.com for deals on "slightly used" machines with warranty

Using the same model here. Got it under 400USD last July from another site.big_dave wrote:I use the Remstar System One 60 Series Auto and it works well for me. I just sold my Apex travel machine and will be getting a new spare machine and, most likely, it would be the same. This time it will be from cpap.com as they more cheaper now than the other site.

Re: What are some GREAT APAP set ups for below $500?
It would help us help you if we knew for sure which RemStart Pro you have. Your profile lists the System One Series 60 humidifier. That implies you have the PR System One Series 60 RemSTAR PRO. But we need to be sure that it's a PRO instead of a PLUS. The PRO records full efficacy data and the PLUS does not.Jimmycrackhorn wrote:Right now I have a remstar. I think it's listed in my profile. I have never had any success ever with this machine but it could be that my settings were wrong (10). Or that I just needed an APAP.

The PRO's model number will be something like DS460** where the last two letters vary a bit. The PLUS's model number is DS260**.
If you have the Pro, then it records full efficacy data and you should be able to figure out from your data whether the problem is that your current setting is wrong, and that might save you some cash.
If you really want an APAP, you have the following options:
1) Get the PR System One Series 60 Auto---this machine is compatible with your current humidifier if you've listed your humidifier correctly. So you would not need to buy both the humidifier and the blower unit. Our hosts, cpap.com have this listed at $399 right now. You might be able to get a used Series 60 Auto from secondwindcpap.com for a bit cheaper.
2) Get a *used* Resmed S9 AutoSet or AutoSet for Her with the humidifier. Your humidifier will not work with the S9's. You might be able to find a gently used S9 AutoSet or AutoSet for Her with the humidifier unit at secondwindcpap.com
Without knowing the specs on the machines you are looking at we can't answer your question about whether they're worth it.Like i said in the title, in trying to stay below $500 since I'm DEFINITELY on a budget. I'm seeing a couple options on Google for around $400.
Wondering if those are even worth it.
And then there's this to consider:
If you have the System One PRO instead of the System One PLUS, you might want to look at the data on the SD card using SleepyHead. The data will help us help you figure out if you actually need an Auto or not. It could be that a minor pressure adjustment is all you need to make your current machine work for you.
So before running out to buy a new machine I would suggest the following:
1) Confirm whether you've got the System One PRO or the PLUS. Take the humidifier tank out, turn the machine over and look for the model number on the bottom of the blower unit and tell us what that model number is.
2) If you have the PRO, start looking at the data in SleepyHead. Post a typical night or two and we'll be able to tell you if your current setting needs to be tweaked. If you are stuck with the PLUS, then buy an APAP since you need the efficacy data to figure out what pressure settings you ought to be using.
3) Tell us why you "have never had any success ever" with your current CPAP machine. Is it that you cannot get to sleep with the machine? Or is it that you still feel lousy even though you are sleeping all night, every night with the machine? Or do you wake up in the middle of the night and then take the mask off? Or something else?
Here's the thing you have to be aware of: Simply switching a fixed pressure machine for an auto may or may not address any of the issues that you are currently dealing with when you try to use the Pro. If the problem is a that you simply cannot seem to get to sleep with a mask on your face, then switching machines is probably not going to fix your problem. If the problem is that your current pressure setting of 10cm is not effective, then using the data your current machine records to tweak the data may be all you need. If you've already been looking at the data and you are dealing with a situation where you cannot tolerate the pressure you need at certain times of the night all night long, then switching to an APAP may very well help.

While this is truly a situation where your mileage may vary really holds true; this is a well-regarded machine being sold by an equally well-regarded source. The ResMed S9 AutoSet is identical in most respects other than externals to the current and highly regarded AirSense 10. I have used Respironics System One and the new DreamStation (both in APAP configuration) as well as ResMed's S8, S9, and the new AS 10 (again, all in APAP configuration); I have found the smoothness of pressure transitions during breathing relief for the ResMed units to feel better for me. Both brands provide very similar data and are easy to use SleepyHead with. One other benefit of the ResMed is that it comes already configured to accept a heated hose whereas, AFAIK, the System One requires a specific humidifier and power supply. However, you will find fans of both brands here.grayghost4 wrote:how about this one for $350 including shipping to US

Re: What are some GREAT APAP set ups for below $500?
Expecting a APAP it make a day and night difference in your treatment isn't realistic. It (APAP) if set correctly, it can lower your pressure to where it is easier use. CPAP gives the same results, but must be set to cover your worst apnea, spending more of you night at a higner pressure, with the downside of more leaks, and swallowing more air.
Some find that they do better with CPAP, as the pressure changes bother their sleep. I have both but use CPAP, as it was my orgional machine i'm trying to finish it's lifespand off (16,000 hours) 11 years. Unlike new ones, it's a "Tank" built to last, I have 3. Jim

Use data to optimize your xPAP treatment!

Of course, ALL APAPs can be used in cpap (single pressure) mode.
The advantage is that you can try it both ways, settling on what feels best.
You can also find the best pressure as you age or gain/lose weight, skipping $leep lab$.

Above is my old discussion on this.
This really hasn't changed. This whole Cpap experience has been a literal horror show.
To be honest I'm in bed right now where I've been most of today, where I spend way too much time almost every day.
To answer your question, yes. It's that I wake up every day feeling like garbage to the point that it's debilitating and I can barely function, think, my eyes feel horrible fatigue at times, and many times I have so much sleep deprivation that my blood pressure shoots up.
The readings were all fine as you can see in that other post. This DAILY tiredness was NOT happening pre-Cpap.
Maybe 3 or 4 days a week I would feel like hell waking up but since starting Cpap is has become daily.
So something is off. I don't know if it's the mask or what but I've tried a bunch of different masks by now and no difference in results.
If the latest sleep study suggests to get on APAP I'm willing to try. This sucks.
If I wasn't amazing at Meditation I'd literally be a basket case instead of just a horrible mess.

Re: Want to buy a GREAT APAP set ups for below $500 ..
Bumping this because I literally have 1 day left on my auto-trial and I need to figure out if I keep using it or just switch to the 12.5 the machine seems to be giving me.
I just notice my AHI is at an all time low, I'm starting to feel better every day FINALLY but that my pressure seems to change a bit during the night. So I'm concerned that perhaps I need that 10 to 14.5 setting vs just a flat 12.5
Opinions are welcome on this.
And also if you have an APAP or know of where to getting one for a decent price because I'm on Medicaid but they've been stalling their butts off on getting me this new machine, reply here or inbox me.
Thanks
